Post subject:  Sierra Lean Cause and Solutions?

Hey all! My Sierra has brand new OME Dakkar springs that I fitted and now has a lean to the driver's front corner, I've tried swaping springs side to side on both the front and back and she still leans :( I put a longer shackle on the drivers side but all this does is force the spring down but no raise in height it's getting quite frustrating This seems to be a common problem for sierra's! I'm just trying to sort this problem out on my Jigger been a pain for some time now and have tried a number of things to resolve it but still to no avail just wondering if people know what the cause of this problem is and what people have done to resolve it? so please post up your solutions and cause's so we can all overcome this drama Thanks Robb.

i removed the load leaf from the passenger front spring. i am 120kg so i tend to have a bit of an affect on sierras.

I had the same problem but I fixed it last night (note I have a 2" ruf) what I did was I cut off the drivers front shackle mount and moved it forward so both shackle angles are the same, tacked it in place, put it all back together dropped it on the ground and about five time to get it right the lean is gone and all good :D

and also make shore that you move the mount to accommodate for your body weight :D

The cause of the problem is that a sierra is significantly heavier on the RHS than the LHS, even before the driver gets in the car.

The steering box, inlet manifold, battery, pedal box, steering column, most of the transfer case, fuel tank and spare tyre are all on the RHS. Once you add the driver, there's a significant difference between RHS and LHS.

There's not that much difference in spring height (stock) between the LHS and RHS springs once removed, so I'm suspicious that suzuki run a stiffer spring on the the RHF.

The lean isn't/shouldn't be too bad with stock OME springs if they are installed correctly.

However, with RUF it can be terrible. running an extra leaf in the RHF spring seems to be the best fix, and it's legitimate - if that side is heavier, it's reasonable to assume it needs a high rate spring.

Perhaps the best fix is to redistribute the weight. moving weight to the LHS and as far back as possible will go a long way to fix the problem. Moving the battery is a good start.

This is my problem as I am also 120kg, but she sits like this empty and even worse with me in it.
Will removing one leaf on the passenger side be the best option or should I have the drivers spring reset proffessionally? as I would prefer the same height clearance the passenger side has.

Gwagen this is what I am trying to do add more weight to the LHR with my extra batteries, tools, recovery gear etc... but this may need more?

This is a problem I would like! :D so I think this is what i'll try on mine first and see how well it works :?:

whats dodgy :?

i moved the mount because my shackle angle was a different angle to the left, by moving it that also eliminated the lean

creating a problem to mask another problem.

how is that not dodgy?

The cause of the lean was not your mounts being in different places, it was more weight on the drivers side or poor spring design.

You still have the original issue, you just masked it up with a very questionable fix.

Just while we are on this . One of my front OME's has a + sign on it and the other side has a - on it. I assumed when I fitted them that the + side went onto the drivers side. Is this correct?

+ means its about 0-3mm above free height spec. - means the opposite.

Post subject:  Re: Sierra Lean Cause and Solutions?

Ok back on subject:

Today I took your advice and ran with it, I started by removing one Leaf from the LHF spring pack and this made a little difference but still not enough so after driving it to settle them in I checked them again and she still sat low on drivers side. I measured her all round and found the LHR to be too high so descided to remove one from there as well after doing this she sits beautiful slightly up on Drivers side (Approx 10mm) at both front and rear when empty now when I slide my Fat arse in she's all level!
Now I can stop stressing about it but will still keep an eye on it as it settles in.
I just want to thank you all for your input to solve this annoying and very common problem Cheers Robb.

So your just 1 less on the left then you are on the right?

How does it handle being softer on one side?

Mine has a lean id love to get rid of, just not sure about having different amount of leaves in each side.. lol

Not that noticable as I had heavier springs in the rear it's only slightly softer but not enough to make that much of a difference so all good! Robb.
