Thought I'd give some feedback on the ERPS system that I had fitted to my Jimny shortly after buying it. The car is now almost 9 years old, with 140,000km. It has seen many beach trips and sometimes not washed for a couple of weeks after returning (I know, bad habit).

So far the body has only one place with rust which is in the floor of the little storage compartment for the jack.

Areas that have suffered, and understandably, are all the metal parts that have no, or poor contact to a "charged" element of the vehicle, particularly the suspension parts with rubber bushings separating them.

I also chemical rust proofed the car when it was new but have never touched it up.

you need to have at least 3 contact pads (don't remember the tech term) I have 2 on the body and one on the chassis. 4 would be better. Larger vehicles need more.

I have 4 in mine and my car is parked 30m from the ocean outside every night, I left a bare metal piece of body exposed for over a year and the rust didnt pit the steel just formed an oxide layer over it like it says it will, mini on the otherhand thats parked in a garage is looking a bit sad in bare metal places :(

they arent all the same though, I have seen some of the cheap shit ones with rusty mounting screws :)

Mine is the ERPS branded one. I asked around for peoples thoughts but nobody I knew had one. In the end I thought, what the hell I'll give it a go. I've been quite happy. And yeah bare metal is not that big a deal.

My suzi has ERPS and is near rusted to death, it is a beach car, and I wash it, but it was pretty rusty when I bought it.

I remember seeing the ERPS under bonnet the first time, and laughing.

Yeah but at what point was it fitted. Probably after it was rusty. Also was it always connected and how many contact points are fitted? What brand is it?

Sorry, no idea, looks old as the hills, I'm not interested in it.

If I was to try to rust proof anything, I would use zinc anodes, all the rest are, IMO just magic furphys.

That's what lots of people told me about them, but has definitely worked. Compared to my last Sierra it's been a huge saving of body panels. Just sharing my exp.

Mate,
I have no doubt that they help, if set up right, they have been around a long time, and if there was no possibility of them working they would have been taken off the market years ago.

Mine, sadly I think nothing could help her, she has been in salt water many times, so no discredit to any form of rust prevention.

Its a shame the rust in mine, have spent heaps doing her up to be an ripper toy, but looks like a rust piece of crap, next mod, is find a good shell and do a body swap.

I just kept replacing rusty metal with fiberglass in my old Sierra. Mainly in the floor and the regular cancer spots around hinges etc. Fiberglass doesn't rust :-)

Is this one an "ERPS" branded product (or what ever they used to be called) or a knock off??

I don't know what either look like.

Mine is under the bonnet, passenger side, without going and having a look, about 3" wide x 2" deep, and, say 1/4" thick.

Does say Electronic Rust prevention System on it.

I have no idea without going for a look how many wires come out of it.

Its a little blue thing, 2 1/2" high, 2" wide, and has 2 wires coming from it, no name, just ERPS and then full Electronic rara
