Ok so I have finally got some time to do a transfer case rebuild. I promised warlock that I would get it done for him when he got my LJ80. Anyway so far I have stripped the case down and cleaned it up. Firstly I scanned and printed the destructions, so I would not get my book dirty. 
Then I popped the selecter shaft out. 
Flanges were a bit tricky 
But they didn't win

Next I removed the cover and drained the oil out. 
Removed the speedo cable plug, the big shift was the largest spanner I had... lucky!

Front cover nuts then came off. 
Then gently I tapped the cover off.

knocked the top shaft out gently and the removed the bearings

Nect I used a very small screw driver and knocked out the spring tube that holds the selecter shaft in place.

After this I got a bit busy and forgot to take pics of each step. Hoever the next few steps were to remove the internal slector shaft then the circlips in the intermediate shaft. It was then an easy process to slide the shaft out. After the intermediat was out be careful not to lose the end spacers and the internal needle rollers. Place to one side with the spaces correct ends. |

After removing the intemediate shaft I then took out the selecter slides and the springs and 2 ball bearings. |

Then it was time to slide out the bottom gear shaft. I used the hammer and a block of wood gently to knocked it out with the bearings attached. I will go visit a friend next who has a press to get the bearing off tomorrow.

Next I cleaned up the case, cutting off the old paper gasket and filing it nice and flat.

Any bearing or seal shop such as CBC will have the bearings and seals needed. CBC used to have a boxed kit for the LJ trans case, but I guess they wouldn't have sold them for years, but will definately have a list of the contents. The rear oil seal you mentioned in another thread as needing replacing is ID:32mm, OD:52mm, T:10mm |

nice work hutch, i ripped mine down and replaced all seals and bearings and also replaced the nuts with stainless 1's and the 4 screws stainless aswell |
