Post subject:  air compressor

hey guys
i am getin a front air locker with the big compressor and i am wondering were u guys hav mounted it i hav heard to people mounting it up near the glovebox but i hav heard that makes the firewall wall rattle, i no i can mount it under the bonnet but how well do they deal with water n mud.

Is there a service time for these thing`s?? I assume that thay have a sump with oil in them, How often do thay get serviced???

No, there's no oil in them, that's why they can be mounted in any position.

The rings are teflon and the bearings are sealed.

mines under the bonnet and its been fine and its all mud and bog hole here.
the bigger arb compressors have a different air filter than the smaller on that seems to be splash protected quiet well.
arb head office have one submerged in a fish tank with the air intake out of the water and it still runs great its been there for months

I have the smaller ARB compressor mounted under the bonnet.
It's up the front on the bracket that used to hold the jack.
Yeah, it gets mud on it, but in over a year, I haven't had any problems with it.

If you mean the big ARB compressor then you will have no problems , ARB ran one under water (with a breather on it) for age's .Mine is under the bonnet and its fine. :wink:

Mine is behind the glovebox, you can't hear the firewall rattle over the sound of the compressor.
Great for scaring passengers!

You could always hook the compressor intake up to the engine air intake after the filter. That's what I'm going to do with my converted air con pump if I can work out how to hang it off the side of the V6 :roll:

yeah with the arb ones you can run a hose too your air cleaner if your worried...
you can also fully rebuild the arb ones if they die
works really fast too pump up your tyres too =] about a minute a tyre
