Ok peeps, i currently have my exhaust exiting out the side behind my passenger side rear wheel where they are from factory.

I'm noticing more and more photos of members softtops with them coming straight out the back of the car. My question is, do you get alot of fumes getting sucked in the rear?
Mine is going into the shop to get fixed and thinking about getting it changed to straight out the rear.

That`ll do it. What was your cat doing in the car??

you CAN put it out the bum, but it has to be pointed downwards towards the road.

On a coily, the stock exhaust is straight out rearward. You will notice a stock plastic coily bumper even has a small notch above the pipe.

As far as soft-tops go, they are a little fumey when you have a full-top fitted with the rear of the canvas open. I never drive with the rear open on my full-top Zuk.

I fitted a fast-back style canvas to my other Zuk, and regularly drive with the top up. I have never noticed exhaust fumes with a fast-back fitted. They don't seem to have the same vacuum effect as a full top.

Alex, if the pic in your avatar is your car you have a fibreglass roof and that is why you get no fumes

Bullfrog has a ute toneau which is why he gets no fumes

If you have a soft top with standard canopy you will get fumes with a pipe straight out the back.

Post subject:  Re: Softtop exhaust exit?

Ok I see I am going to have to explain this, when I said ...... If you have a soft top with standard canopy you will get fumes with a pipe straight out the back. ..... I was talking about with the canopy on.

I am too tired to think out the technicalities at the moment, maybe someone can explian it better, but when you are driving the vehicle creates a low pressure area behind it which causes the toxic exhaust gases to be sucked into the cabin area of the car. If you are running no roof or you have a roof that finishes at the "b" pillar like a bimini top you don't have the problem because the low pressure area is now where your back seat is not behind your tailgate where the exhaust is. Also the wind blowing around the cabin area disipates any fumes that may lick back in..
