Don't want to get into a discussion about full-on Doof-Doof car stereos here, but what decent sounding replacement speakers will fit directly into the original holes in the front of a Sierra? I don't really like the idea of cutting holes in the rear trim cards to mount 6"x9"s in the back, just something for the front, but I want as good a sound as possible.

What have people found?

should be able to get a good set of 6 inch splits in the front pretty easy.

Directly into the holes is 6"

massive improvment if you deaden than chamber and mount the speakers on an MDF panel over the original hole

if you dont mind a bit of cutting a 6x9 will fit down there

if you dont mind a lot of cutting a 6 and an 8 will fit down there :)

you can buy boxes that screw to the body over the preexisting hole. they screw over it and you can put 6x9's into them.

Royce, how did you go about deadening the chamber? Just packing it with loose dacron or something?? I've got 4" speakers in small boxes that i made, one screwed to the parcel shelf under the dash and the other bolted under the dash next to the ignition. I had to trim the dash a bit (with the saw blade on my leatherman!) to make it fit and attack some useless looking bit of metal with the grinder but I got it in there. I wouldn't recommend it tho, the amount of times i've driven my knee into the pointy corner of the box while climbing into the seat... Time for a change!

the guy i brought my zook off installed a set of splits put the woofer component in the door in original space and then he cut a small hole under the dash pretty much under steering wheel for drivers tweeter and then in then under the little box for storage on passenger side and put them in nice and flush cant even tell they are there if you done point them out its really good no i just need some splits for my rear end and hopefully a lill 8 or 10inch sub maybe under the drivers side seat or under the rear passanger seats maybe. p.s ive always owned a rice burner with a huge sound system pulling 160db with a15inch subs and now i just need the lill sub to give some better sound quality :P

good luck fitting a sub under a seat in a zook. my amp just fits in under mine. i have mtx 6.5" splits in the front with the tweaters mounted on the dash and 6x9s on pods on plywood panels in the back.

I installed 6.5" Jaycar speaker in the front kick panels of my coily.

Jaycar 6.5"

Screwed some speaker spacers to the panel first:
Aerpro

Looks good, however speaker on the drivers side ends up mighty close to the fuse box thing.
