Post subject:  1.3 carby tune
im just wondering if anyone knows where the mixture screw is on the 1.3 sierra carby i can see the idle adjustable one. when i rev my car past 2500rpm when looking at the carby its pouring a fair amount of fuel in. i only get about 250k's a tank.

or if you can point me into the direction of someone who knows how to tune them properly on the sunycoast. but just after a quick fix for the moment just to turn it down a bit. need my timing and all that done properly soon but just not atm. Also are the secondary's opened via vaccum? or mechanical

Don't bother playing with the mixture screw, it'll just bugger it all up for ya. Save up and get a carby specialist or decent mechanic to set it all up properly. 250kms doesn't sound too bad, what tyres and/or gearing do you have?

I could be wrong, but a standard Sierra with a 40 litre tank that gets 250km/s to a tank equates by my mathematical thinking to around 16 litres per 100 km's. My wifes 3.5 litre v6 powered 2 ton crossover vehicle gets 13.4litres to 100km's, so I reckon based on that, the fuel economy zuk85 is getting is shit. As ScrawnC said it's best to get a professional to sort out your carby as adjusting the mixture screw won't do anything but lean or richen out your idle mixture. Your overall fuel economy won't improve.

It`s ment to, car wouldn`t run other wise..
mixture screw only adjust`s idle mixture....

i run daily on 205/75r/15 cooper stt's with stock gearing.
but yea i think i will save up some penny's and get a specialist to check it out. cheers anyway guys :D

You should be getting around 350 - 400kms per tank.

I'd say your carby is in need of a reco. You can put a kit through it yourself or have carby specialist do it. I think kits are around $60 - $70 and a carby specialist will charge you around $300 - $350 to reco it.

Don't mess with the mixture screw, if you lean it out too much you risk stuffing more than you're fuel economy!

Also… As your engine gets tired/old your fuel economy will drop as well.

I guess I was basing my comment on my experience. I get about 270-300kms to a tank but I fill it when it nears empty and only ever get about 32 litres in. It mighthave something to do with the whooping great dent in the bottom :lol: :lol:

Go to a carby place and get it rebuilt. 16+L/100 whilist on the tarmac is rubbish.

The other thing a carby place will check is the entire ignition system, fuel system, filters, etc. Your problem might be a combination of carby and other things.

My stocker with 215/75R15 M/Ts does 9.5L/100km.

My not so stocker on 29s does 12.5L/100km and I think this is too much.

my speedo doesn't work so i just tell my self that my economy is awesome . oh and because i have a hole in
the tank i can only put around 20ltr in it so it is a cheap fill as well. :wink: :D

thats the new one mate, it will be all good for the next inspection and lets face it lockers are much more important then a leaky fuel tank. :wink:
oh plus the fella that i get to do the inspection is a drunk and cant drive the car. :D

hey champ i just asked sorta the same thing for my sierra with the 1.6 vit in it and some of the guys said recarb at kawana 5493 3788 i rang them they sound like decent guys but not sure on quality of work. as in my 1.6vit with carby im geting like just under 300km's around the mid to high 200's per tank since i recently swapped the engines over my last 1.6 carby that was in her got around 350km's so not sure whats going on at the moment
