Hi all,
Please be nice..My mate is doing an engine swap in his 3.0l Td patrol(i beg of you, please be nice) it is a 2000 model, he has aquired a 2005 model engine 3.0Td. The question is will it fit electronically and physically? Will the cylinder head be the same as I think we need to utilise his old one? Anything else we might need to know would be great.
I know I will cop a fair bit of shit for posting this, I hope I get some useful info out of it as i know that there are some very intelligent people on here(insert emoticon of asskissing here)
Thanks in advance...PLEASE BE NICE!

They are the same motor Just all the sensors and componants are different, They were made more eco freindly. If you have the wire harness and computer you should be fine. I am not sure about wiring going to the dash or anything like that.
And I think the EGR setup is different,

What if we just used it as a short motor conversion. He has near new turbo, intercooler a/market computer and chip all installed.

That's what I'd do. What's wrong with the old motor? Apart from being a ZD30

It's one of those magical unicorn engines that about 4 or 5 mechanics/ diesel specialist/ turbo specialists cannot put a finger on. Keeps blowing a gasket up top somewhere, will find out which one exactly. Blows a bit of black smoke, still drives really well though, even with the engine light constantly on!

Sounds like the pin is about to fall out of the Grenade
they gunk up the EGR or something and the turbo pumps too much and they go bang
I would put a G16 in it

Can the EGR be bypassed? How hard and cost wise is a G16?

from what I understand of it the turbo doesnt have a wastegate, the ecu alters the pitch of the vanes to adjsut how much air it pumps and therefore boost, problem seems to be the ecu doesnt measure actual pressure anywhere just know this revs, this throttle position, this vane angle.
Problem comes about in that it assumes a certain amount of exhuast is going into the EGR not the turbo, the EGR clogs up so then the turbo spins harder = more boost = pin falls out of the grenade and BANG!!!!

So a manual boost control with some kind of wastegate set up
that has a predetermined point at which it pops, eg at 16 psi
or something like that??

G16 is a suzuki 1.6L 4 cylinder - someone was having a zook themed joke
The EGR can be bypassed i think, check the patrol forum there is a good thread on the ZD30 boost control system and opperation there (forgotten the link sorry).

that is exactly what you need. it is an excess of boost that blows these things up, control the boost and they will run for a lot longer. They actually have the exact same engine as the navara's but the nav's run a smaller turbo and have been set up better, might be worth a look at how the navara's control their boost.

From what I'm told the Navara engine is built by Renault, the Patrol engine is Nissan. Still the same ZD30 motor, just better built by Renault.
