[Rockhopper]

I want to build some armour for my fuel tank now that I got it's capacity back. I was just wondering if someone here has built one and post up some sort of drawing with measurements?
I'm in the process of trying to devise something like the shrockworks gaurd, but if somebodys already got the plans for one, it'll save me a lot of time.

I think I saw them and they looked a little weak to me. I was planning on using 4 or 5mm sheet

Mine is made from 6mm plate steel.

I didn't make it, but whoever did did a brillant job. I can measure out each separate section for ya on the weekend if ya like. 6mm is like a bit of overkill, 5.5mm should be plenty
Each section is just flat steel welded together. Pretty easy for a backyard stick welder.

Just viewed the 3D model and its fully sick peaceout . I just have to convert the image to a jpg. then I'll chuck it up here

I'd be in for one, and i'd replace my dented tank and do it whilst the tow bar is off. so i only do it once.

If someone can lend me a vitara for a few hrs I can knock some up. If the SWB and LWB vit tanks are different I would need one of each to measure, and then trail fit once they were made.

Cool thanx. That's just what I'm looking for. It's similar build to what I was thinking.
@ Fatzook I'm also intersted in seeing your design. I've spent a little bit of time nutting out a bit of rough sketch with some measurements this arvo and I'm interested in comparing to others

(I have a vit tank)

I made a sample tank guard out of cardboard.and taped together to suit.

I used 4-5mm plate cut into pieces so i could weld them together.

I also left a gap inbetween the tank and guard for easy cleaning.

I was also going to bend up some 50x4 flatbar into straps for reinforcing for all the welded plates. But i thought it might be alittle overkill, however i did reinforce the top edges to one another. And reinforced some welded bends with bits of triangular plate. As seen in pics.

i made one for my vit out of 4mm checker plate i found at work sitting there doing nothing and belonging to no-one it was a score. i will see if i have some pics laying around as it looks nothing like the previous pics..
and dont forget guys, it was a backyard job..

Checker plate sucks ass, grabs friggin everything and won't slide. If you get it for nothing use it flat side down.

You have a point there just_cruizin but i didnt think of this at the time..
here are some pics i took if off the car as it needs a clean up and respray.
i made this about 4 years ago from 5mm Checker Plate and some old bed frame i found during council pick up after a branch i ran over decided it to wanted to be in my fuel tank. i didnt have access to a stell bender either so i stuck with a simple design.

lol. Thats exactly what I'm making my tank armour from. 5mm checker plate and an old bed frame. All I could get from my metal merchant at the time was checker plate offcut, and I did'nt have enough cash left over for angle, so I went to my dads place, who is a unashamed horder and found an old bed frame I could use for the angle. All I gotta do now is cut the checker plate up into the sizes I want and weld it all together. I think I'll take Just_cruizin's advice and use the flat side of the checkerplate
