wat are u guys doing for recovery points i need some front and rear. i have a soft top wt. any bolts on easy fit kits ? i dont have any recovery points.

I bought some standard recovery hooks from repco drilled two holes in my chassis and bolted it in but i then took it off and noticed that the chassis had bent under the hook....

On the rear i had a piece of angle going from an outside bolt on the spring hanger and another hole in the chassis... it worked well...

But i don't know of any bolt on kits....

Only got around to doing this last week.
Got washer from work. They make them big at work. 100mm square and 10 mm thick. Needed to slice about 6 mm off one side.

Did some cutting and drilling.

Needed to slice a bit of the bolt head off to make it fit in here.

Altered the crush tube to allow for extra thickness.

Make sure you use high tensile bolts. I used 10mm. A couple of bucks each.

Hope this helps. Just need to source some 10mm plate. Still has to come out to fully finish it thats why its still a lttle rough. Wanted it in before the Glasshouse wheel. :lol:

I like to rant about recovery points on Sierras

those 8mm bolts will shear well before a strap lets go, if the dont pull from the chassis first.

on the front I am a fan of the standard point with some 32nb heavy pipe slid inside the crossmember

on the rear some 10mm plate that bolts into the towbar holes and then a towbar underneath it

these still arent strong so remember to take it easy, dont recover anything really stuck or heavy and dont let people recover you you dont know or trust, its not hard to lift and shove a zook if you have enough people to get unstuck but its real easy TO DIE if something fails

hey guys what do you mean by stock point? my lwb has no recovery point that i can see. do you mean just the pipe that runs along the front of the chassis????

yes there is a tie down point on it / bracket to mount a steering dampener.

tore my front recovery mount right off the bit of pipe along with the rtc steering dampner. Turns out those dodgy indians that built my car only did pissy little welds one the outside, so i gave it a good grind and re-attatched it with dirty big welds on both sides.
The next step will be to smack a bit of pipe through the one thats already there to reinforce it.
