the vitara VSS bolts into the sierra speedo, Fitted my NT speedo (unsure of WT dash thou).
Have to dissemble the speedo and a little wiring.

Unsure if the vitara VSS will work with the GTi ecu ? should thou it's just a pulse signal

That'll work, it need's a pulse sig but dosen't have to read the speed 100% true, if you can run the sig lower than the car is going the eng will go that Lil bit better.

I have a gti instrument cluster. Does anybody know what a gti one will look like and does it fit in the nt cluster? Also could you do it the same way jrzook did with that homemade vss?

Theres heaps of suzukis that have the VSS in them that bolts into the sierra cluster.

I pulled one from a Swift with no tach - (late 80's?) VSS must have been used to run EGR or something - pretty sure it was a carby swift.

It's meant to tell the comp what the car is doing and give better fuel economy

It doesn't affect normal running, its mainly for fuel cut on decelleration but is also used as one of the inputs to the IAC to simulate a 'dashpot effect' to prevent stalling when coming to a stop.

I think that is only for a MK2/3 engine.....im fairly sure that MK1 engines don't have VSS

This is the best photo i could get. you cant really see anything but. The screw on the left is the VSS signal. the one on the right is the ground wire.

Looks like the write up for the home made VSS would be easier. It looks to complicated to pull the GTI speedo apart to get it out.

I think ill just use the whole GTI speedo. easier to just trim some plastic to make it fit.

you can build one for $5. i went to jaycar and bought a reed switch and put it in. then attached two wires (speaker) and plugged it back into my ecu...
