Does anyone know the size of the rear speakers in the Vitara JX wagons? I cant seem to remove the side interior without damaging it - I can see them and sorta feel them but not perfectly. I think they are 6" (circle ones) or 4" but not too sure.

Also, I want to install 6x9s under the rear seats (in the space between the black bracket cover and the centre console - what is behind it? Small enough space for speakers?;

there is room for 6" in the factory location & where you want to put 6x9's is not such a good idea as it's not enclosed with an outer panel like the ones near the seat belt mounts.

I just put 6x9's in to replace the rear ones. just used a jigsaw with a metal blade to make the hole large enough and replaced the cards with some grey plastic.
cutting through under the rear seats will lead to outside the vehicle i presume which aint gonna be great for any speaker, id avoid it if possible.

I had no idea if it wall a hallow space or very thin but I thought that was a very cool spot. I managed to pull the interior off in the back to reveal 4" but i swear it felt bigger. Ill probs replace them with 6x9s and cut some space out like pyrohamish said.

I replaced the front 4" (6w) speakers with better ones - no probs with wiring. I have never wired 6x9s but would read the manual. Do they require more than the 2 wires to connect ( + and - ) *like the 4"s?

well i also replaced the front ones with 6" and placed them in the doors. just removed the old ones from on the dash and crimped some wire on to extend them and ran it into the passenger and driver door.
with replacing both front and back requires a bit of handyman work to make brackets to suit where the screw holes are on the speakers but im sure you can work that out.
new headunit and sub go well, just ordered a new fusion sub from work the other day, tis only 240x310x80mm in size, 100w rms gonna see how that goes to replace by chunky old one that takes up way too much room

Another question. Would the positioning of the 6x9s in the car make a difference (rear doors or boot) because Ill be installing a subwoofer in the boot so and I wasn't sure if you could hear the 6x9s through the sub (not that I would crank the sub up)!

*Bit confusing*

The front 4" were 5w speakers and replaced them with cadence 60W

in an ideal world speakers shouldn't face each other, but it would take an expert to notice the difference.

Well the speakers are built into the boot (behind the interior walls - with a small inlet <its so weird>) and the pretty much the sub will be 15cm away. I might as well replace those with 4" so no mucking around and stick the 6x9s in the rear doors.

So from my understanding, 2x in boot, 2x in rear doors, 2x on dash
thats 6 in total meaning you have to run wire for a pair and workout how to get it to work with the head unit.
Seems like overkill, mine was plenty loud enough with cheap sony speakers from supercheap.
I never found the sub overpowering the rear speakers, well unless i set it to be but not normally.
I got rid of that vent by replacing the whole interior piece because the way i mounted the 6x9s meant it went through the vent and would have looked shit.

Why dont you get a piece of mdf 12 mm should be fine and mount your rear speakers on it and use some wadding on the inside wall of the body to stop the body vibrating, for the front you could go with a set of splits they sound awesome, if its tuned right you won't need a sub hope this helps dont go by how many whats the speakers are the try watts of a speaker is the rms
