On Saturday I went into ARB to order my Front locker and 4 guys at ARB all told me I should do the rear first, so after doing all my research on front lockers and all the mods I have to do to fit it, I have decided, Fuck it!!! I'm just going to do them both. Question! To fit to a 1999 GV 2.5lt V6 with 5.12 vit diffs Which is the right one for the rear? RD74 or RD79? Or is it RD88 both front and rear? !!!!! |

Which is the right one for the rear? RD74 or RD79? depends on what vitara crown wheel you have from my understanding RD74 = 10 Bolt (carby) & RD79 = 12bolt (EFI) |

ARB have a deal on through November so for both lockers fitted to your centres, the compressor with tyre inflation, tyre inflation kit and tyre repair kit, then fitting and wiring yourself is $2790.00 Standard price for both lockers fitted to your centres and the small compresseor only is $3800.00 |

So I've done the deed and bought both the front and rear lockers, now I'm guessing that the bit that attaches to your drive shafts is called the third member, so do I have to swap the third member on the front diff? GV steel third member to the vit 5.12 centre? |

Part #9 is your "third member" and if your GV is equipped with a steel one, dont change it. If yours is alloy, you can still fit a locker but the alloy ones are not known for their strength. Part #2 is your "Ring & Pinion" and are a matched pair. These you take from a donor Vitara with 5.125 diffs. These are the only bits you need to achieve 5.125 gearing in your GV front diff. The ring gear is attached to the ARB centre which make Parts 17 & 18 more or less redundant. If you are changing from an alloy third member to a steel one, most of the other stuff is swapped across. I would recommend installing a new pinion seal (part #7) if you end up putting in the 5.125 gearing |

Thanks for the info Stuey, Thats awsome. I'm a real hack at this, but learning every day and info + illistrations like that are perfect. I've never pulled diffs out before but I figure if you dont give it a go then I will never pull diffs out and then I will never know...some one always knows how to put shit back together....... |

Your welcome. I didnt know a great deal about diffs either until around 6 months ago. It was then I went about looking into air lockers for mine and I thought if I could do most of the work myself it would save $$$. Its been a rapid learning curve since then. All I can suggest is if you are pulling the diff out yourself, invest in new driveshaft and axle seals while you are at it. Only cost around $10-15 each. Piece of mind anyhow. But let a professional shop install the locker into the third member. This requires specialist tools and knowledge. |
