too much analizing, it works now, what's the problem ?

I hope someone can shed some light on my dilemma. I have the std 1.3 with 190 000k just serviced. I was driving home from work today and suddenly lost all power after I went over some train tracks. So I thought something came loose..... Turnsout I couldn't find anything. Anyway What happens is, parked not in gear and I would rev to test it. It would go up to 2500 revs, then die completly. the car turns on and idles fine. I then opened the airbox as I have not changed the filter in a while. After that It worked fine. closed the box back up and now its fine. I would like to know what the problem was as I have a trip planned tomorrow. Any suggestions? |

electrical or carby check all the leads ? take em off and stick em back on. Or even get new ones. Same has happened to me. Usually something to do with the coil, like leads or other bad connections. |

Hmmm, could be any of the above. Service was done by me. I'm yet to do the air filter (tomorrow). These dont really explain why it eorks fine now. ? |

? Was it blowing smoke when it stopped? If you gave it air & it ran fine, than that should give a clue. |

If you gave it air & it ran fine, than that should give a clue. and it would point to carby..... maybe not main jet though... i would still check it, maybe something was floating around inside the carby bowl and momantarily blocked the jet, then the rush of air un blocked it, or even the movement of the car etc |

this happened to me aswell. took the air cleaner off the carby and got a mate to rev it and blocked the air off to the carby supposedly blew the shit out of the jets and all fine now. hope this helps |

Yea it is fine now but im going on a trip tomorrow and dont want it to appen in the scrub. All I did was rev it when the air ox was open, then it was fine. I would like to get to the bottom of it though. Thanks or all the tips guys. I might take the trip on Sunday and spend a day going over all the suggestions pointed out. Thanks for the great tips

could it be a vacuum leak some where on the manifold/carby? can you pull the error codes off the ecu....

well first you need to figure out which of the few basic requirments and engine needs is running away, fuel air ignition or compression |

I had the same problem last year, i was driving down a heavily corrugated road to the beach, when i suddenly lost all power, it idled ok, but as soon as i revved it, it would cough and stop, i thought it was flooding the carby... After fiddling around under the bonnet for an hour in the Hot sun, i suddenly noticed, that there is a plastic clip on top of the engine that holds the plug leads, it had snapped off and lowered just enough to short out the plug leads, a couple of cable ties later, and it was all Good to go again ! I find that most simple engine problems can be only 2 things, Fuel and Spark... you will know if the engine has bigger problems, or has died completely/self destructed, by those give away loud noises you will hear, lol... |
