Hi,
Im about to purchase some trans gears (6.5's) and was wondering what other bits i should get for the install?
I was thinking the mighty kong, and a rebuild kit of some sort? Do i really need the full rebiuld kit? Also should i get new mounts etc. Do i need the updated output shaft? (mines a 93 but regod as a 94?)
The less i spend on extras might mean i can also get a locker. Gotta love the exchange rate :D

you could get a transfer lift kit and a roctoy ring cheaper then a mighty kong cradle. this way you could make a skid plate to protect transfer and exhaust.

i have a mighty kong in mine, it seems alright and i havent smashed any gears/cases yet, from what i have read though the rocktoy ring will provide more strength to the case as it has more mounting points.

check this one out, pretty much a rocktoy right but is mounted it a nice strong looking cradle. http://www.zuksoffroad.net/samurai_tcase.htm

while your at it defently order the full rebuild kit. It means you can change all the old bearing and seals, it will save you alot of hassle further down the track.

I agree, get the full rebuild kit, you are doing a major job on that case and any Corners Cut always seem to know Murphys Law, They must be relatives or something.

I bought one of those "snatch" cradles... haven't fitted it yeat but damn they look strong.

Yep that snatch cradle looks nice, but i like the idea of the skid plate on the kong also. It looks like the snatch case also has a small skid plate?? Ok, so a full rebuild kit, has anybody bothered with the updated output shaft?

I got the kong, and it is great.
Get the beefier front output shaft while you are at it...

snake racing seem dam expensive. Getting stuff from the states at the moment is more worthwhile with the good exchange rate. Those snatch cradles look like they have a pretty decent skid plate while offering something very similar to the rocktoy ring.

Yeah just measure mine the skid plate is 5mm thick. The tubes are about 35mm outside diametre. The whole case "swings" on the neoprene mounts x4. Mine cost $400 delivered. The kong seems ok too. But that snake one doest seem to offer as much protection?

Try locktup4x4 in perth mate, or trail gear.

Year I agree I’m now considering the snatch cradles instead of the snake cradle now that the exchange rate is good. :)

You don't need to upgrade the mounts... but it will prevent problems down the track if you do.

I have run 31" tyres, F+R automatic lockers for a long time (3-4 years) and have only recently broken 2 standard mounts.

I would definitely go the full rebuild kit as well. I am currently considering my options and will most likely go lifted mounts + rocktoy ring + bracing standard drivers side arm.

Well i decide on the ZOR snatch. I was informed to make a full rebuild kit with the purchase of the 6.5's you can just get the supplement install kit (lowrange). I also ordered a number of other goodies;
Full shifter kit
2 diff guards
1 locker
and a 2' spindle socket

:D :D Cant wait till they arrive! Now i just need the time to install it all
