You can give me your g16b i would have thought a 1.6 was heaps of power for 4wding?? What about a turbo for the g16b??? From what i have herd they are one of the best engines in a zook... |

Why not? You may need to, how long is the box? you really want the motor as close to the fire wall as you can get it. |

When I looked at doing this conversion in my searches i found u need to move the transfer 100 to 150 mm back alot easier to do if it was a lwb just turbo the 1.6 |

There is no need for more power then a g16b. Unless your running 40's i guess.. Buy a 180sx/silvia to go with the ca18det |

ca18zook has this setup and it works quite well: http://www.auszookers.com/index.php?nam ... pic&t=1722 and yes his transfer is moved back. |

putting a turbo on would be easier then swapping motors. i saw a sierra a few months ago with a wrx turbo and g16b, it had 150hp. |

the g16b just laks tough, and i have owned many cars with ca18det very stong and reliable motor, i herd that the 16 did not like boost? all the serches i have done on turboing or supper charging them every one has blown them rods and heads, os this true? the 16 and box is 900mm long and the ca and auto box is 1600mm long. how much can yhe standard 1.6 ecu take mod wise? bigger cam and say 7psi? |

how much can yhe standard 1.6 ecu take mod wise? bigger cam and say 7psi? Im guessing these would be very much related. Yes you may be able to run the stock ecu and fudge it to get it running with boost ie rising rate fuel pressure regulator and knock back the static timing (if dizzy equipt). Even still the fuel maps and especially the timing map is way out to suit forced induction. So what your left with is rather high CR engine, boosted running on a less than ideal tune. Scrap the bigger cam and go standalone ECU and then possibly boost and get it tuned correctly. At least then it will stand half a chance of surviving for a descent amount of time. Dan |

Dan I think you'll find that the biggest problem with turboing the g16 is avoiding detonation, unless you go to the expense of custom pistons to drop the compression ratio. If you only want to go 7psi (which should be heaps IMO), keeping the stock cam and compression ratio would be fine. Aftermarket ECU like Jr Zook suggested will give it a chance of being reliable. Water injection should keep detonation under control. That's how i'd do it anyway. |

My Vitara G16 had 280,000kms on it and still ran sweet as anything. Don't tell me that isn't a strong and reliable motor... |

You can get them chipped, but if thay haven't chipped one before, you pay for the development of said chip, could take a few to get it right. In that case you'd be better of with a stand alone or piggy back. |

is there a piggy back for the g16b? if i go stand alone ecu i can scrap the afm, and go map sensior, the afm looks so restrictive with that cone set up very strange, |

Yes, Yes, Yes! Huge friggen gain in power, Std comp's are set to give economy not power, piggy back is piggy back, just do some research 1st to find a good one. Map is what most after market's want (don't have to give it to em tho) Haltec make a water resistant ecu that is simple to install & give's set & forget reliability. Have driven 20v 4age's before & after & the power gain is amazing.

stand alone ecu's are great my gti sierra had one and it flew i was amazed that a stock 1.3 engine could get near 100 hp with just the ecu Are you after tourqe off road or on road? If off road just get reduction gears would be alot easier |

bit of both on and off, want to fit 33's just want more power the 1.6 is poo. mayb if i charge it it might go better, not sure if its worth buying a ecu, chaeger fitting it, when i can get a fully rebuilt ca18det for 2500 with every thing box ecu loom ect, is there mush work moving the transfer back? just make mounts and get shafts made? |

Doing a conversion is a big job, it's not a thing that can be done over a week end, so many thing need to be changed/modified that you would want a considerable gain to warrant it, unless your going to race it you don't need that much power, you have to remember that it's only a small car & terminal speed can be reached with a 1.3, if you want to drag ya mate's, your in the wrong car, if you want a capable 4wd, you own one. |

| Post subject: | Re: help putting ca18det into sierra |
Firstly everyone so far is talking hypothetically, I have not seen a post from anyone that actually HAS a turbocharged or supercharged 1.3 or 1.6 Suzuki engine in a sierra. There are some around and some belong to people who read this forum, the ones I know of have spent and continue to spend plenty of money and are still not totally happy with the result. steknig makes a very good point in asking what you want from the car, he has seen his share of modified suzukis, in fact I think his first ride in a suzuki was in my nissan powered LJ, unfortunately everything is a compromise and if you want a reliable vehicle that is geared so that that it is capable of dragging itself up and down wicked tracks it is not going to be a long distance tourer or a Saturday night industrial estate drag racer and vice versa. If done properly a conversion like a ca18 or 4age is going to give you the power that you are seeking and will have drivability and reliability that you just won’t get from a 1.3 or 1.6 Suzuki engine that has been highly modified to achieve that same kind of power. To get that kind of power from your Suzuki engine you will have to spend a lot of money and you will end up with a fragile result. Maybe Darren would like to post about his experiences over the last 4-5 years of development and off road racing his turbocharged Suzuki. The Suzuki engine is designed for a specific purpose, in good condition it will cruise along at the speed limit and will take you anywhere you want to go in the bush over all kinds of terrain with reliability and enough power to do the job. I have had and still do have Suzuki's fitted with engines from other manufacturers but I have to agree with the majority of people on the forum and say that an EFI 1.6 Vitara engine is still probably the best all round conversion for a sierra. If you are worried about moving the transfer case which will also entail having drive shafts and jack shaft remade then don't consider a conversion because that is the least of your worries. You have wiring, plumbing, mounting, sump clearance, firewall clearance, tunnel clearance, and cooling issues that will far outweigh the driveline issues which will be farmed out anyway. If all this does not deter you then I would suggest that you look at a 4age or 20 valve conversion before the ca18 mainly because it is a more commonly done conversion so the issues have been addressed and detailed information is available in relation to fitment, parts to be used, stitching in the loom etc. and you don't have the added engineering issue of going over 1600cc. |

trust me don't wast your time with the STD ecu or piggy backs, go look for a good second hand aftermarket ecu (haltech) that will suit your needs. then you be able to scrap alot of stuff like the AFM |
