OK well one of my mates brother has just got a Vitara. I think its one of the very last of the carby engines. We have been taking it out for a bit of 4wd fun lately.
I think i might have court the 4WDing bug. But who knows it might just be a fad and pass next week.
So i found one on ebay its been listed on there a few times now with no bids.
EBAY SIERRA
What can you guys tell me about this car. should i keep looking is there a better engine i should look out for, is it worth giving him a call and offering him less then a grand.

I know things i should look out for include leaking at the back of the engine and rust. is there anything else?

i dont want something too expensive. dont wanna have to worry about damaging it. Plus i have seem some of the massive holes and stuff some of you guys drive through. seems a little too hard core for me.

other than the seats and dash being changed at some stage

being a 1 litre it means all the driveline is very old and any parts you are gunna get for it are 1985 or older

and its expensive really for a 1 litre, try for an 89 onwards, better engine, wider, jsut better all over and starting from $1500

how much money do you want to spend?

in june 88 the sierras changed from narrow track diffs to wide track diffs ( a little wider ).
The NTs are going fairly cheap , but the wide tracks are what people are usualy after. A good NT will keep you happy though and go just as hardcore as the wide tracks. You can achieve the same with with wheel offsets anyway.

i might give this one a miss. I dont like the idea of the dash being changed over.
So NTs are pre 88 with the one liter motor?
what are the ones after 88 called?

it goes

about 80 to 84 narrow track, 1 litre engine
84 to 88.5 narrow track, 1.3 engine
88.5 to 95 wide track 1.3 engine (92 on was a facelift model, slightly different engine and grill)
96 to 98 coil spring 1.3 engine

a lot of 1.3 parts are interchangable but different enough to be annoying
no 1 litre engine or driveline parts interchange with 1.3's

re the dash, it is a later 1 litre dash, so its either been changed or its an 84-85 model 1 litre (85 never officially existed, they were just left over 84 that were slow to sell)
