After a little jaunt up in the hills I now have a strange scraping sound coming from the front right wheel area. It sounds like the pad is dragging on the rotor but I'm not sure. There's no vibration through the steering wheel either powering or braking so I don't think it's warped disc. When I jack up the wheel and rotate the wheel by hand I can hear the pads slightly dragging on the rotor but I thought this is normal? It doesn't occur when I brake so I thought it was dirty pads, but after a spray with brake cleaner the sound is still there. The sound is a bit random when driving straight, doesn't occur when I turn right but does occur when I turn left, I assume because I'm loading up the right hand side. Could it be the wheel bearing? |

I had the same thing last weekend. When I drove it made a funny scraping sound.( I was on a dirt track at the time) When I used the brakes it went away. I stopped and reversed then went foward. It came and went for about 5 kms. I was on a dirt track so I was rather suse it was a rock between the disc and the rotor. After about 5 kms it went away. So ya might jack car and have a really really good look at the disc area. I would put $$$ on it being a small rock there. Good luck and let us know. |

you dont have freewheeling hubs do you? I'm guessing wheel bearing or crap round the CV, rocks get louder when you brake or go away prety quickly |

Nope, no free wheeling hubs yet. I'll check around the CV. What could be wrong with the bearing? Full of dirt etc or about to crap itself? |

I know what you are saying but when I used the brakes you would think the noise would get worse but it went away, then foot off brake it would come again. Only lasted 5 odd mins then gone. The noise did not go away quick it went away slow as in like the rock getting smaller if that makes sence? It could well have been a rock around the CV but I did not have my hubs locked in at that stage. |
