it could be done but it wont be worth it for an extra couple of hundred you could have an exhaust to match the extractors |

The OEM exhaust is so small, why would you put extractors and go from 2" down to microscopic. 2" is as cheap as chips, common as, so go for a little more expense and get a good system that works well, or don't waste you money. |

Cheers Hi OMalley, Yep go the full 2" sports system ! peaceout A 2" system with extractors can add 10 to 15% more power to the engine !
I am going to get the full 2" sports system myself in a few weeks, cant wait, lol
And i also found out, that if you get a less restrictive are cleaner, allowing more air to flow into the engine, you can also get another 10 to 15% more engine power !

MacBear, I would say, with a decent inlet and outlet system, 15% improvement would be pushing it, you need to alter fuel and ignition to get the real gains from opening up your inlet and outlet. Then you will see big gains, and where it counts most, low revs torque. |

I went from a stock standard system to extractors and a full 2 inch sports system with a hi flow cat and a straight through muffler about a week ago And yes theres quite a noticeable gain in torque and power.. it also revs allot easier.. sounds great too |

| Post subject: | Re: Extractors? |
I had a system put in... I said before they started "Are you sure 2.1/4" is not too big for this engine?" "No it'll be perfect" they said. I asked the same question after and got the same response. I have since asked other zookers, my father (an retired mechanic) and another exhaust shop and got the same response "yep that's too big for a 1.3L" Seems the biggest one needs for a 1.3L is 2". There is no doubt that it revs harder, but with a system that is too big, there is not enough back pressure and you don't gain as much in the low end torque range which is where one needs it for off-roading. Incidentally, I also said I wanted it to be quiet. They said "For the quoted price we'll put a resonator in if it needs it". I called the next day and said "Its way too noisy". The response "Ok, bring it back and we'll put that resonator in." errr WHAT? Not very impressed! OMalley: I think you will get some improvement, but upgrading the rest of the system will be well worth it. I too have just put in a UNIFILTER hi flow foam filter but have not had a chance to test it. I may also get the timing and fuel mixtures adjusted for best results as SuziBlu suggests. I did all of this on a 250cc buggy last year and got some good performance out of it. |

Back pressure is a falacy, think about making the statement that you need restriction in an exhaust then then talking about putting a bigger one on for less restriction after properly tuned extractors, there is no such thing as too big an exhaust, smaller ones will move the tuned point of the system lower but at the expense of power at any higher load |

Hi SuziBlu, The actual parts suppliers, those that supply Extractors + sports exhaust systems, and the high flow sports air filters, all suggest that 10 to 15% improvement is what can be expected... i am sure they forgot to mention that those percentages would be in ideal conditions or best projected outcomes... but there is no denying, that an increased air flow into an engine, combined with a increased flow of exhaust gases with less back pressure, does increase engine performance to a noticeable degree ! It may only be 5% for some engines, but something is better than nothing... Hmmm ok, thanks for that info, when i get my extractors and sports exhaust system fitted, i will have to get my Zook re-tuned to take full advantage of the better flow in and out... Cheers |

Ugrade you coil, its only a few dollars, get something like a GTR 40 and some 8mm leads. |

GTR40 are for points!!!!!! |

I was told they are good for either, points or very early electronic systems, not late ones, but early is ok. I have been running a GT40R for ages now, cuppla years, and my lil girl goes like the clappers. Not much on her, extractors, and just enuf pipe to put on a open muffler, a webber, GT40R, 8mm leads, I use 30ml of acetone per 25l of 98, and hot shot plugs, cant remember the name, the ones that have 4 ignition points on them. Reason for them is that you can either shim plugs to get them all pointed at the inlet valve, or get 4 point ones. I have over a period of time, with the use of my arse to feel the diff, worked out that my lil motor runs best, torque wise, with 13.5° BTDC timing. I use 31" claws, and she can tow a 2 ton trailer at 80kph in top gear, she does go well. If this coil is wrong, what do you suggest, I will get one today. |

I am a bit indifferent to coils really cause they will only produce enough spark fire the gap in the plugs, 0.8mm isnt a lot to worry about so the stock coil or a gt40 will work fine, GT40R is meant for a ballast resistor so if anything youll burn the coil out sooner, might be something to consider if you wanted to run a big plug gap for maybe a bit of power (doubt it) you can use a MEC style bosch coil, but I found 1.2mm gap on the stock coil was OK you could run an MSD or CDI style of setup for multispark goodness |

Royce, now im confused. Suzi has a 9v input and so needs an R type coil, or so I always thought, if you do not use the R you will burn out your dizzy. Help me out here. I have been using the gt40r for ages, and my lil toy goes real hard, I looked thru the Bosch cat and they do not say this is for a 1.3, use the SU12R for the suzi. ?? |

1 litres have a resistor, 1.3 are 12v right up to the coil as it supplies power to teh module too, unless ive got it all wrong SU12 is jsut a generic oil filled coil, MEC and HEC types are transformer |

. Backpressure, why does an engine want/need backpressure ie restriction? Got very little to do with it. Ideally you want an exhaust sized to give you 0 backpressure at the highest gas speed velocity. With huge pipes you loose the velocity and hence the scavenging effect. Dan |

SU12 is jsut a generic oil filled coil, MEC and HEC types are transformer Royce, I spoke to an auto electrician who told me that I need a balloast resistor and an R type coil or i would burn out the module in my coil. I do know that without the resistor there is a noticable feel to power. I have searched the net, and driven into town to speak to the crew at motor traders, who consulted all their old books for me, and we came to nothing, none of their books mentions a 1.3l dam. So you recon get rid of the restrictor ? |

if you have an R coil you should have a resistor, but make sure the positive feed into teh dissy is 12v not 9v I have never seen a 1.3 with a resistor, anyone else? |
