They were free so thats not a problem :D I wanted to try and use them in the LWB.
Ill count the teeth on the output shaft

edi: out put shaft has 26 teeth

that looks like the INPUT shaft. not the rear output. if it's 4.16:1 ratio you can use the input gear from a 1 litre (with switch). of course getting hold of one might not be so easy.

but the question is WHAT has caused the damage? what is the mating gear's condition?

if theres any stamped names on the gears try to work out the brand and you might be able to buy just the buggered bits.

they were not installed correctly so he replaced them the other gears have no damage ill take a look if there is any stamping i think they are 6.5 but i cant tell

Post subject:  Re: transfer gear identification ?

ok so i cant see anything stamped on the gears.
Also from what i can tell it is the input shaft can anyone identify it 100%?
Does anyone have a diagram of how to put it together i might be able to piece it together to tell what gear ratio it is by counting the turns

count the teeth on each gear.
If you do this and tell me which gear has what number of teeth, I can tell you pretty quick what ratio it is. if you need to use pics, go for it :)

thats def the input gear/shaft too ;)

Post subject:  Re: transfer gear identification ?

input is on the right. front output top left. rear output is on the bottom left

the gears that are all in line is the high range, the gears that feed through the intermediate cluster are the low range.

and the pic is a 4.16:1 ratio

Ill guess the low low's from ere, 1st pic, 6th from the top, 2nd from the bottom, 2nd from the top im pretty sure there is two of these. 4th from the top thats your 4wd selector, i think.... the big shaft thingo is what the front and rear output are connected to.

Download the off road lowrange 6.5's manual im sure you could figure it out from that...

my lowrange 6.5 gears have a 26 tooth INPUT gear. the same as the one you have damaged. (1st pic)
your 7th is the same shaft just different ratio??

OK mate, you've got 2 sets of gears mixed up in those photos. there are actually only 5 "gears/cogs" in a Sierra transfer. You've also labbelled the selector parts as gears, they are just your 2-4 or H-L selector dog clutches.

I'll estimate which parts belong with which gears.

input gears: 26, 44
High range counter: 41, 58
High range output: 43
Low range counter: 23, 21
Low range output: 61, 60

none of these match a 1L Sierra case, some match a standard 1.3 case
standard 1,3 case:
input gear: 44
High range counter: 41
High range output: 62 (missing, or did you maybe miscount the 61 which I've listed as a low range gear? I'll assume this.)
Low range counter: 23
Low range output: 56 (missing)

This leaves you with
input gears: 26
High range counter: 58
High range output: 43
Low range counter: 21
Low range output: 60

therefore you get:
Primary reduction = 58/26 = 2.231:1
High range overdrive = 43/58 = 0.741:1
Low range reduction = 60/21 = 2.857:1

total high range = 1.654:1
total low range = 6.374:1

Numbers are not perfect, I'd say there is a miscount of teeth somewhere. But I think its close enough to say this is a 6.5 gear set. might be a 6.1, just depends on which way the error went.

Don't know how you'll go getting a new input. Contact whoever made the 6.5's maybe?

As they have all aready said count the teeth. But to add to that 6.5-1 you have to shave the case to get them to fitthe smaller ones you don't. secondly From what I have seen only rockhopper don't mark there gears with the brand name. They dont warranty there gear so they dont have to identify it. The fact that he didnt warranty them is also a strong suggestion that they are rockhoppers.
I have been building Gearboxs for a while now and I have never seen a gear come apart like that and now cause damage to the maiting gear. But good luck if you can get it in there cheap all the better. Just remember if you fit it into your case and it comes apart again you run the risk of cracking your case and cost you more money in the long run.

Trail Tough list a 6.4 set of t/case gears. Contact them to see if they will just supply a new Input Gear only. I don't know if these are the same tooth count as a 6.5 set, or if the others just round off their figures differently.

Looking at the pic of the gears you might to be able to count the teeth, but the design of the output gear looks very similar.

Trail Tough list a 6.4 set of t/case gears. Contact them to see if they will just supply a new Input Gear only. I don't know if these are the same tooth count as a 6.5 set, or if the others just round off their figures differently.

Didn't know there were 6.4's. well they might be the ones then, as the rounding makes sense :)
and yeah the 3 holes in the low range output gear looks very alike.

I have been out fiddling with the gears again and took a look at the case i got with them. Both sides have been ground out to clear the gear so im certain they are 6.5 gears now i just have to find a input shaft
Thanks for the help fellas.

So you don't think they are the Trail Tough 6.4's? I hope a 6.5 gear will mesh correctly.

they could be ill ring the place he got them off and find out what brand gears they normally supply are
