Hey dude which way have you mounted your weber?? Sounds like the fuel bowl is at the front of your engine. I run the weber and have mounted it so the bowl is at the rear of the engine. Stalls on steep declines but i find it bareable since gravity is pulling the car down hill not uphill. Try turning the carb 180 deg for a rear mounted fuel bowl.

Cheers Dan

I think it should already have one..lol
Do you mean an electric fuel pump instead of the mechanical one?

Nah apparently its a common problem with webbers cos of the fuel bowl position. dont think electric would fix problem unless im wrong.
OK back to question, does any one run anything else apart from standard carb or webber on there 1.3L zooks? just after other options apart from these two.
thanks guys

Hey steve, i bought the car with the webber on it so i dont know what standard is like. Is there a massive difference between standard and the webber in the way they perform?

the standard one is really good on angles.

G'day I have a 1994 vitara with the carby 1.6L. The carby will be different to yours but I had the same problem, it kept dieing on hills me mate had an ashdown 11psi fuel pump so i hooked it up the ignition via a switch now with the fuel pump on the car will idle on steep hills no prob but when i turn the pump off she starts to die. So you could at least give an electric fuel pump a go.

another problem that can cause this is the needle and seat may need adjusting or replacing.

hope this helps.

I have a 1.6 Vitara carby on my zook, I think its off an early 90's model. Big improvement over stock 1.3, runs & idles a lot better... but because I haven't finished my mods & the zook's not on the road I haven't had a chance to tackle any hills yet.

Zukchik--- what sort of mods did you need to do for it to fit? I mean, did you have to make an adapter plate or is it a straight swap?

Hey mrmagoo how are you...

Joe from 4Play Offroad in Kilsyth (VIC) did my carby swap ... There are a couple of things you have to do (and not do!) so best you seek his (or someone else's) expert knowledge before doing it yourself. I can't remember the details but it should be pretty easy to do once you have the right instruction :) Give Joe a call 03-97614694

Best of luck!

Bruce and steve.... you spend wwway too much time on here! I think you should both move to SA and give me a hand with my business so I can go work on my zook :D
