Hey guys

Im thinking of getting a 9000lb T-Max Winch on my wide track, Its goin to be fitted to my new ARB bull bar, and i know thats only rated at 6000lb, but i was talking to the guy at the local 4x4 shop in melton and he thinks that 9000lb would be ok on the sierra BEING a very light car and if stuck in the mud or so it would be easy to pull out

What i want to know is if im going to f@#k up my car in anyway or shoul i look around and get something smaller,

WARN 6000lb $1400 fitted

T-Max 9000lb $900 fitted

go the warn just because the bar is rated to 6000 and the winch is 9000 doesn't mean you will exceed 6000 and they are a good winch never had one in 2 years come back for warranty

But the bar is rated at 6000lb, will i reck anything if i put a higher rated winch on it ???

the winch might be able to pull 9000pounds but the zook will only weigh like 4000pounds the extra 5000pounds is just so the winch isnt working to hard to pull

soa 6000 pound rated bar shopuld be fine for thatjob

(thats just my look on it corect me if im wrong)

From all that I have read the Tiger is the best bang for your buck. I am looking to be getting one after Chrissy. As already stated with how light the zook is you will be fine. Just dont go trying to pull out anyone that is too big. Be sure to re-inforce where the winch and bar is going bolt to the frame rail I have a 5mm right angle steel plate welded between my frame rails that my winch is bolted to. My bull bar is just hiding it.

Just be smart as to what you pull and how you pull with any winch.

I currently have a 3500 cheap ebay job that works fine but its slow and will not pull anything bigger then my rig. I am going to mount this one the rear so I can use it if I have to.

I have a Tigerz11 12000Ib winch and love it. I have used ita ahndfull of times and it didnt even bog down. I was worried about mounting so I plated the fronts, the sides and the top of the chassis and put crush tubes in to.so it looks similer to a landcruiser set up. and made the bart o suit. If you do go with plasma make sure you make a top cover plate to keep it out off the sun

the t-max 6500 is about 25kg with steel rope and also still has a 5.5hp motor.
it has a smaller spool then the other winches but still has 30mtr of rated string. :wink:
have a look at joe blow's Melbourne cup day post before buying a warn 6000

Is it a sizing issue, and that is why they only recommend a 6000lb winch or would it be more to do with the engineering of the bar?

you could be right, also they may have a different mounting bolt pattern.
i have a t-max 9000lb and it is really good, reasonably quick and plenty of power for the zook but it weighs 35kg. i would have gone for a tiger 11 if i knew about them when i was looking for a winch just because of their light weight.

Well its not so much sizing as both the WARN 6000 and t-max 9000 fit in the ARB bull bar, i was just more worried if it will do damge to my car being a bigger and higer rated winch

But by the sounds of it alot of zook owners out there have 6000 + on there zooks so, i shouldnt have a problem with it, if i use it the right way

don't forget that on an ARB bar 50% of the chassis mounts seem to get chopped of to fit bigger tyres. so some thing that is rated to 6000lb with all
its mounts may not be such a great idea when the chassis outrigger things are cut off.
joe would have more of an idea then me but.

So are you saying , my 6000lb bar wont be rated at 6000lb when i get bigger wheels, due to cutting the outriggers shorter, so the bar rating will drop lower then 6000lb, Yes ??

I think that would have to be upto my 4x4 shop to work out when we get there i guess

a ARB winch bar is supposed to be held on with 8 bolts. 4 on the chassis rail and 4 on the outrigger things. :wink:

EDIT: you could mod the bar, i welded 2 tabs to the cross member at the front so my bar has 6 mounting points and no out riggers.

Hey guys
i got my car booked in in 2 weeks to fit the 9000lb t-max winch to my ARB bull bar

I told me that theres not much they can do in making the bar stronger, but i will let them know about "Ridges" idea and see what they say about it

But thanks for the help guys, lets just hope i dont pull my car apart lol

if you are gunna use the front chassis crossmember bash some pipe into it as it is really thin. :wink:

if you want really strong mounts use the body mount as well.

i recon the main problem with the ARB bar(and all the other brands) is that the mounts are all
close together so any hits or pulling force has to be in line with the mounts
otherwise the leaver action makes the mounts eventually fail. if ya triangulate the mounts they are shitloads stronger.

What size of piping is that you used for it ??

and thats chopping the outriggers to fit bigger wheels yes ?? plus i have a body lift waitting to be fitted so that means ill have to lift the bar as well and make new brackets

if you have a body lift to go in either fit that first or do it at the same time beacsue you will have to raise your bar to suit.

Well i do have one sitting around, so you think i should getting all the work done at once ??, cos i know im getting 31" or 32" one day so that means ill have to cut the outriggers back as well so lifting the bar out cutting outriggers

yea i would get the body lift and bar fitted at the same time this way they can be made to fit properly
