Okay so I was driving down to my motorcycle riding test on Sunday (it could have happened some other time - it cost me $161 plus I have to sit the L's test again 2 days off work etc. After opening the bonnet my camshaft timing belt gear had managed to come forward over the bolt that holds it on. The center is all ground out!! What would have caused this? The motor was out of a wreck and in the original accident the camshaft gear was broken. Is it possible that the camshaft was damaged/bent? Has anyone heard of this happening before? |

@jonno_racing: camshaft @zacs7: possibly will have to undertake a thorough inspection of the shaft Some photos cause they are always better. Yeah the bolt holding on the gear does not appear to have loosened at all, I was able to turn over the camshaft without any problems as well. |

That look's to me to be the wrong pulley for the cam, or the wrong or damaged key way causing the pulley to spin on the shaft. I have seen it before. Did it bend any valve's?? |

Hrmm okay thanks for the insight. Pretty sure it was the right camshaft gear as the motors are both 1.3L 1298cc from 95 Sierras, but who know. It is quite possible that the key that holds it in position was damaged and I did not notice when putting the gear on. The motor has run ~5,000k since been put in. No the pistons did not hit the valves, they don't hit on the 1.3 @jonno_racing: Nah was not revving hard at the time. |

g13a's are free spin.. as in pistons can not hit the valves.. that is strange. i am voteing the pully was fked and had a small crack in it.. and has got worse. |
