http://www.suzistore.com.au/shopexd.asp?id=131 Cost about the same as a tube of 3bond, you can just "glue" it on with 3bond or silicon, but that's what you are doing, gluing it on. If it leak's again it will just be harder to get off to fix the original problem. |

Glue, just use glue (automotive silicone) on everything unless it specifically requires a gasket like the head, or somewhere which uses thickness of gasket as part of its clearancing. |

This is asking for trouble. I use sealant for sumps but dry gaskets for everything else |

I use the gaskets and a very light coat of high temp gasket silicone. That way it give great sealing, without being a total prick to pry off next time. For things without gaskets i.e. diff, prying them off is a real pain in the bum. |

So do I but not in place of a gasket if one is available, 3/4's of a modern ally eng is sealed with silicone, but thay are two machined surfaces, not tin on ally or tin on cast ect ect ect Use silicone as an aid, not the fix (unless thay boobies) |

I thought manufacturers like Toyota only use silicone for their sump gaskets. I did one only the other day. Even though it was a forklift, it had the same engine as a Toyota Dyna in it. Mind you, I don't know how Toyota produces it's sump gasket silicone. Once it sets, it becomes a job and a half to seperate the sump from the block again without damaging the lip of the sump. Have done a tb42 Nissan motor the same way too. |

tb42? I try not to!! I've broken a couple of sump's on swift's getting them off, but I was replacing them anyway due to the sump hitting something harder.. zd30 I've helped with a couple of time's, try not to tho. Just about all the newer Suzuki eng's are mainly 3 bond gasket's, well sump & timing cover. But as said before, two machined surface's. |

They come sealed with Silicon from the factory, and there is no sump gasket in the parts catalogue... Suzuki Factory Service Manual wrote: Oil Pan
1) Clean mating surfaces of oil pan and cylinder block. Remove oil, old sealant, and dusts from mating surfaces. After cleaning, apply silicon type sealant to oil pan mating surface continuously as shown in Fig. 3-6-23. |
