im having some hassles with my suzi, its a grand vitara 1.6 EFI
i degrease the engine and now when driving the car surges. i will be accelerating normally and suddenly the car will get a burst of power then die off again. the car also idles very low and rough now.
the is also a burning smell inside the cabin that comes and goes.
i thought it might be water in the electrics so iv sprayed all the sockets with contact cleaner, this helped as the car idles a bit better and the surging is less noticeable. but the burning smell still comes and goes
dose anybody know what could be causing the burning smell and the power surges?

i defenatly didn't get the ECU wet, but i think i just found where the smell is coming from
i noticed today i have a leak coming from my sump gasket, the oil has covered the little inspection plate on the front of the bell housing, so maby the oil in getting in and cooking and causing the clutch to play up and the smell, because the clutch was acting funny the other day
thanks for the quick reply guys

There is a main eng harness near the fire wall, normaly water will get into them, thay have clip's to hold em together so thay can be a bit hard to get undone.
I had a V6 do the same thing & I couldn't find any water in any thing, I let it sit in the sun for a day & it fixed it's self!!
I spent hour's looking for water in plug's, harness, coilpack's ect ect ect

+1 for the smell being the degreaser
has water got in the sparkplug tubes? whenever I clean mine I always let it idle for ages to clear it out but it always starts to miss once I am driving, might pay to give em a blow out and leave it in the sun for a while
