X2 we need to know the noise to tell you how to find it...

Is it a low noise , high pitch, does it change with the revs or road speed? Is the noise louder or same if you drive it in 4wd high at speeds?
Have you had weight in the car, Is it louder then?
Is there any vibration that comes with the noise? If so is it in the steering wheel or more in the back of the car?
Have you checked the axils? looked and felt your Uni's?
What mods do you have?

transfer case needs rebuilding, the layshaft has started to lose its case hardening, The noise is of the bearings wearing there way into the shaft

see if it looks the same, check the bolt pattern on the flanges on your other one.

Not too bad just replace lay shaft and all bearings and good as new

And while you've got the case apart, might as well put some 6.5 gears in there.... ;) ;)
