I want to install a set of HID's utilising the factory fitted wiring harness option for after market driving lights. There is a brown plug with 5 contacts (plus 1 unused hole) behind the centre dummy cover on the RHS of the steering column. There is also an 2 pin plug at the left headlight. I presume these are the required plugs, but I cannot find a link between the 2. The black wire of the 2 pin plug measures constant ground. There is 12v at 2 of the contacts in the brown plug. None of them seem to be switched with High Beam, but a couple do switch for parkers. Have I got the right plugs, and am I missing something like a fuse or a relay to complete the circuit? I have perused Royce's diagram, but it does not make much sense. The writeup states 'Suzuki head lights are ground switching', which I understand, but the diagram suggests otherwise. The left contact (back view) of all lights is permanently earthed. The second inset of the plug 'Viewed from front of plug' suggests that High Beam, 86 and 87 (of the High Beam relay) are all wired together and that 85 is earthed. This is not obvious by the diagram because of the second reversed view of the plug until one interprets it. |

gday mate, with the driving light set the factory switch plugs into the brown plug in the cabin. there is a plug behind the battery coming out of the loom on the firewall in the engine bay. its been a long time since I wired up my driving lights but I think it was only one wire at the battery and is used as signal to switch a relay on. but there should be a circuit between one of the brown plug connectors and the plug behind the battery. I have that switch turning my driving lights on and I know it was a bit backwards when I set it up but I kinda like an electrical challenge |

hey mate.. from memory they are driving lights and are designed to come on with park lights. it wouldnt be to had to rewire, still using the original plugs, all you would need to do is rewire the parklight switching pin to high beam switching. the rest of the wiring should be large enough to handle the load. brown plug i would assume would be something like this. -park light feed for illumination of switch -park light feed for switch -output of switch to relay -earth for illumination -output for light in dash all you need to do is figure out what does what. if you want a hand and want to come to me (northern end of gold coast near movie world) i can help sought it out with you |

paging steak knife my diagram is how to wire up relays into your headlight loom, which converts to positive switch at the lights, its not how the factory setup switches |

That makes sense from my findings yesterday. What changes would I make (using what wires) to change from parker to High Beam switch? tintop - Thanks for the offer but 2 things will stop me. I am in Bracken Ridge (WAY north Brisbane) and I still don't have the car in my posession. Chris assures me he will make every effort to work on it over the next 3 days to get it done. According to Chris, his brother has let him down and so my car has been pushed aside. Anyone - Any comments on Royce's diagram? From what I know of the Jimny, it is not quite right. edit: I'll look for that plug behind the battery when I go in this afternoon. |

Ok, so it requires a complete rewire of the factory system. Why would one do that? Sounds like a lot of added work |

my diagram is not soley about fitting driving lights, its main purpose is to add relays to swith the headlights so the power to the lights go direct from the battery to the lights, not like in a sierra something like 12m of thin wire and a crappy low current switch, this gives full battery power at teh headlights so the lights are a lot brighter if you jsut want to wire spotlights in, wire up like this, RH headlight pin to 86 on relay, 85 on relay to switch, other switch pin to LH headlight pin, battery to 30 on relay, 70 on relay to the lights, this will light the spotlights with the switch AND the high beam on so they are legal not sure on the factory stuff, sounds like they are for foglights which are normally on with parkers only |

gman. Is this signal wire suitable for supplying power to 2x35W HID's or is it suitable for signal only? |

89tintop, your on the money. Royce, I dropped my pager in the toilet Bugster, the brown plug is for signal, don't draw to much current through it, it WILL fry your Bcm (body control module) I leart the hard way on a Gv P.s get Pete to fit em, or an auto sparky |

I would be running relays no matter what is in the original loom. Do give it a go yourself, though get a mate who half knows what he is doing to help. Its satisfying doing something yourself (with help heh) |

Ok, when I bought my jimny I got them to throw in driving lights, they lasted about a year. one of them was cleaned up when skippy headbutted one at 60kmph it eventually fell out and the constant beating of offroading to the other finished it off. when the arb bar was fitted the fog lights were stuffed! I kept the switch in the dash and used it to run some cheap driving lights.
this were the factory signal wire comes out in the engine bay its a single wire you can just see the plug its between the battery and firewall this wire would only be good for a signal to a relay it doesn't run through a body module the other end is the blue wire in the brown plug at the dash.
so the blue wire goes to behind the battery, the 2 black ones go to the lights in the switch, one light is for parkers the other to indicate the fog lights are on,the pinky colour ones are both from parker signal one of the pinks is switched with the blue wire in the switch |

hope this helps, I ended up running 2 wires through the fire wall any way as I was to lazy to get a Highbeam neg from under the dash and instead went to the RH head light |

I don't want to damage the little cover on your first pic. So how did you remove the cover without leaving marks on the dash? A video will be super awesome, thanks! |

If you look at them in your car, they sorta jiggle when you touch them.just get a small flathead screwdriver on the side of them and pry it out. It wont leave any damage. |

What did you guys use for switches? Did you fit them into the cavity or did you have to drill and fit them into the cover cap from the panel? I'm looking for switches for Fog lights and a Light Bar/ driving lights. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

I believe those switches, or Chinese replicas, are available on ebay. |
