Another day, another thread. Am a bit confused about tyre pressure. When i bought my 97 vitara, all the tyres were 35 psi. On the plate and in the manaul it says front and rear are 23psi. Obviously all tyres are different and pressure is determined by load and conditions, but what is a vitaras usual road pressure? The tyres say the following on them: Hankook Optimo K715 250/70R15 - MAx Loag 710kg / 1565lbs at 44psi Also, i am going to learn mechanics and try doing my own servicing and repairs and need to know what tools i need. Obviously i need a jack and some stands. Will a 1 ton jack do for a vitara and 1.5ton stands? |

And also, when taking the gearbox out, do i need a transmission jack or is there another way to do it? |

to many questions.. tyre placard generally sais road presures.. the pressures most people run are a trial and error thing. i would run the 23 psi. and see how it drives/ feels on the road. the 44 psi on the tyre is to do with the maximum load and what presure that is at as to do with the gearbox/servicing.. just pay someone... dont mean to be an arse or something but it kind of sounds like you dont know what your doing and the last thing you want to do is endanger other peoples and your lives. or at a minimum cause damage to the car.. also sounds like you have a lot of questions..... start a newbie post in the chat section and ask all the questions in the one section.. easier to follow for yourself.. im not certain what sort of pressure you want to run in ya sierra but i will say that 32 psi is a bit high for a sierra. the harder the tyre is pumped up the less surface area of the tyre is in contact with the road meaning stopping distance is increased. the other problem is that it the tyre pressure is too high for the weight of the vehicle every time you hit a bump ot defect in the road the tyre will be jarred and shoked and this does damage to thr tyre that you wont see. there is a rule called the 4 psi rule that states the pressure hot should be 4 psi more than the pressure the tyre was pumped up to befor you have done any driving if its more then not enough pressure and if its less than 4 psi difference the tyres were to hard to start with. |

Generally, everyone says 35 or so PSI for tyres, but with the little cars, that pressure is back breaking. I run 31x10.5s and use (generally) 20 psi up front and 18 out back, this is on my sierra. On a vitara, a bit bigger and heavier, IMO start at 25psi, do a run, and then home, drop to 20 and do exact same run, feel the diff, try half way twix both, again exact same run. Then do the brain bit and think, which was best, it will come very easily. You will possibly find about 23-24 up front and 20 to 22 out back is perfect. This with you in the car by yourself. |

Thanks man. Yeah i'm running 25, seems to be the sweet spot. Steerings a lot better at 35 but i feel every bump on the road. Quote: learned that the hard way

From reading your other post you usetoo work on bikes?? You should be fine doing your seervicing but anything more then that like your clutch get some one to do it for you or atleast get a mate that knows cars or even better suzukis. It is fairly basic but very easy to mess up. You will learn in time howto do rear bearing and front hubs but get help for your first time. Just remember you are not working on some model or toy you put on your shelf. It is the car you drive at highwy speed and it could hurt or kill someone if you get it wrong. |

Yeah, i was just looking into it. I'll book it in after all. Dont have the tools or the time really. I'll just stick with servicing it myself, big stuff the mechanics can do. Cheers |
