Heading down to supercheap auto for their new years sale Trying to change clutch myself. Should a just use the basic stand on front and rear. Or can you use front and rear axel stands? And can i se a normal wheel jack to get the stands in or do i need a trolley jack? Sorry for all the questions Any help getting this thing raised on a decent setup would be appreciated. Cheers |

I just came back from there myself with my wallet $400 lighter (I've had pretty good success with their gold tool range, so bought the large socket set and spanner sets they have - bloody good value with 20% off). I've used supercheap pin type axle stands for ages now and have never had an issue with them. More then strong enough to hold up a little Vitara. They are pretty much the perfect width for the chassis rails to sit in them which is what I usually do. I prefer to throw em under the chassis rails rather then the axles, car is much more solid as its not sitting on its suspension then. You probably could use the stock jack to get it up there, but with 20% off I would be inclined to pick up either a bottle or trolley jack just because they are so much damn quicker/easier. You can get a pair of the 750kg rated car ramps for like $69 or something today which is a bit of a bargain also. By far the easiest things to use for servicing etc. Have fun |

If you are going to jack the car up, PLEASE use axle stands! It is too easy to drop the car off the jack and end up crushing you. Also, get help with the gearbox. It is not a one man job when you are on your back. |

+1 the superworks gold stuff is very good. I have a set for my zook tool kit. If i have to use a 2m piece of pipe on a ratchet, I always use the swg ratchet. I have had to replace the ratchet once, and it was swapped no questions asked. To OP. sounds like you got what you needed, good luck. You dont need a transmission jack, just a tea spoon of concrete. |
