Hey guys just wanted to know if any of yous have used or know anyone that has used the Mickey thompson claws before ?? http://www.mickeythompsontires.com.au/t ... radial.htm Ive just got my hands on some new 16x7" rims and looking for some big trye to fit them, with in a price range as well, and i have herd that mickeys are the best so i know there gona be $$$ but are they good tyres ?? Any other suggestion on tyres would be great as well guys

I've never owned a set (& never will) but have seen plenty of cars here(QLD) with them fitted.. In clay they are USELESS. In mud they are OK. On road they are average. On sand (at high speed) they are good... After all they were designed for the BAJA desert race where cars often do over 200km/h. MTZ's or Couragia's or BFG KM2's or Kreepy's if you can get them in a suitable size.. A little more info would help... What ratio road:offroad driving will they do? What terrain offroad? EG sand/clay/black mud/rock etc. What car are they to go on? |

Yeah but the MTZ is 40% road and 60% Mud And the Claw is 20% road and 80% mud So i would say the claw is just that lil bit better for the off roader but thats me zooktastic : Do you have any pics of your zook with the claws fitted ?? and what size are your rims and how much did they cost ?? (if you dont mind me asking that is )
Edit: They going on a 95 soft top sierra, and the car is mostly going to work and back but its the fun car is be doing alot of mud and off road stuff |

I got some 31 inch claws on my zook with about 30% tread left. Awesome traction when let down. I dont use mine on road so cant comment on road performance. |

Hmmm, how many comp trucks are still running Baja Claws? They are so 1999. In Tough Tracks Challenge Class, about 2/3 of the field are running Bias Maxxis Trepadors. They are similar to ProComp X-Terrains. The radial version (same pattern except for side lugs) is sweet on-road - both handling wet/dry and noise/smoothness, compared with open block style mud terrains. |

I drive pretty much exclusively on sand, some blacktop. The claw IMO is the very best sand tyre there is, enormous grip. On ruff dirty, light rock country, good as, in the small amount of rock around here, does everything I want easily. On the blacktop they are ok, mind, its a suzi, no speed so no comment, but I do not think they would be a good road tyre, and the 20% tells that. |

i dont actually have any pics, i think dave has some tho. i have mine on some alloy 15x8 rims with some decent offset, got them off ebay for 350 for 5 of them. |

I had my claws on 15/8.5 rims they were 33.12.50s They were ok in the bush good in the mud good on the sand and avrage on rocks. They have extreemly thick sidewalls some think this is good some so not so good. I am with want33s on this one. if you really want mickeys go with the MTZ |

claws r crap worst tire i have ever used, very bad on road no crip in the wet scary, lock up very easy when breaking. off road a little better. not worth the money, |

Don't forget they are only rated as 20% onroad, meaning, you can drive them onroad legally, but they are not intended for onroad use. |

I have used them for over a year and a half now, and rate the claws highly. Great on road (remember you are driving a 4wd), and great off road as well. I would choose the MTZ if you are doing more on road than off, even though mine is a daily driver with claws... In 18 or so months, there is bugger all wear.

Look at what work the tyre will be doing. How much road? What off road terrain will it be used on? Different tyres perform better on different surfaces. If it is going to be mostly street driven I would personally not buy an "extreme" off-road tyre for 2 reasons, firstly on road performance and safety, and second, its an awful waste of money to wear the claws out on the blacktop. |

Im with jas on this one , Iv'e never seen a supposed offroad tyre clogged so badly in a clay mud as these .Two trucks running them, a sierra and a v6 lux with the lot and man these may aswell have been slicks. another guy running 29" maxxis bighorns just drove round these guys. they maybe ok in the dry or in rock and im sure they are ok on sand but they are without doubt the worst heavy clay mud tyre ive ever seen. I'd run bighorns or cougiers for a great value tyre of the new bfgs if your cashed up. all the mickeys are a ripoff dollar to performance i belive |

Well Ive opened up my mind to a few more brands, its just narrowing them down All your thoughts and opinnions are great guys 4. Mickeys (maybe to much $$$) But still in there 1. Not entirely true, though most of them are 35s and bigger. http://www.maxxis.com/AutomobileLight-T ... awler.aspx Can get a 255/85/16 (about 33) also can get a 6.50-16 and a 7.00-16, both of which I reckon would be sweet on mildly moded Suzukis . Heck, 6.50-16's were an actual tyre option on LJ's
Then there is the federals, not much available in anything large (nothing bigger than a 33) http://www.federaltyres.com.au/specs/couragiamt.pdf I don't think the other options that in2deep has listed will be too much drama with sizings. Unless something a bit "odd" is desired. |

i have 33x12.5 (not on a zook but on a TJ heep). i reckon they measure a little small and narrow for a 33x12.5. They are ok on road in the dry, very little grip on wet on-road. thick side walls but i think creepys will have thicker side walls again. and i agree they can clog badly in mud, and poor side grip(made worse when rear permantly locked). Personally MTZ's look like they have little voids(gaps between lugs) and don't look like a good mud tyre although i've never had them. Your probably already aware but creepy's are bias ply (atleast they are in 35" + sizes). |

couple of other tyres you might wanna consider: Pro Comp mud terrain(not the extreme mud terrain, the standard muds are better) used by several winch comp trucks, even in outback challenge. Silverstone MT-117 Sport, seems to be a few zooks on here running them. |

You could go a 30x9.50R easy enough. 31x10.5R is probably getting a bit wide on a 7" rim. Any more than that and I don't think there is any point at all.... But also remember, unless you do gearing to match the tyres, its gonna be a dog to drive... And the bigger the tyres the worse it will be.... |

Just looked back and realised you have 16x7s not 15x7.... 265/75R16 would be getting close to 32 Inches.... and 10.5 wide |

EDIT: What size is 265/75R16 in Inchs ?? 265/75R16 is pretty much a 32x10.5R16 width = 265mm, height = 265x2x0.75+16x25.4. 1" = 25.4mm I just listed 3 random sizes when I made that post. I wouldn't go any wider than 10.5" tyre width for a 7" wide rim personally. I run 31x10.5R15's on 7" wide rims, and its great, but any wider tyre would be starting to push it. As Ben_Sierra said, whats your gearing going to suit? |

ive had a set of 30x9.5 bighorns on my car for about a month and so far im happy with them. not overly noisy on the black top and they are good in the rain, have had a lot here in the last couple of weeks  i use them mostly on the blacktop as its my daily.
cant really comment on off road performace yet as i am having problems with my hubs so im not getting 4wd. they do clear mud very well, havent been on sand or clay so cant comment on those. |

Well i was just on the BFGoodrich website, and they have the KM2 in a 265/75R16 and it says 7.0 is the minimum rim size 7.5 is recommended and 8.0 max What would be 31" in the other way ?? just so i can get my head around all the numbers lol http://www.bfgoodrich.com.au/config/dow ... onData.pdf But can i still get wider tyres on the rim ??
