hey guys
been talking to a mate I raced bikes with, and since we are both now retired old busted vetrans (bike wise). we thought a finke assult in a car maybe the go for 2011.
anyway for a laugh we were thinking a vitara possibly lwb as a shorty may not have the chariteristics we need.
whats the verdict is it going to be do able.
car needs to be capable of approx 150 - 60 km/h
last for 500km race plus testing
engineered to take a 3' high sand hit about 500 times :wink:
budget around 12k inc car in a production car class (mildly modded)

Saw a great show on turbo +2, they spot welded every seam in the car,around doors, windows etc - very easy way to strengthen the body.

Also filled the sills and other voids with foam fill for rigidity.

I would go the rangie cause it will be cheaper and you will be able to walk for the rest of your lives rather than lying down complaining how stupid you were

yes a rangie would be a better car but its nearly too easy and a vit would be a laugh.
fortunately Im a panel beater by trade so body mods are easy enough
obiously it will have a full cage etc
what im more concerned about is can the suspension and drive train be made to handle it.
a vit should be a good car if the above is sorted.
theyre light, wide, low cog and no one else will race a hairdressers car

The only thing I would say is the Chassis and font end would be the weak links on the Vitara.. Go for a 96-97 model, the 1.6 with some mild head work and a turbo intercooler + a few other little goodies,.Bottom end on these are strong and you could leave it Std. You would be up around the 150hp. Enough to give the the power and realibility you need over a V6 Vitara motor.

You could grab a 97 type 2 V6 and transplant it with a Holden Commodore V6 and auto and Toyota diffs ( V6 are slightly wider motors not as strong )
You do this and you may as well just go Toyota.
No 1 option would be realiable and the cheapest to get the 1st one under the belt.

if you're serious, talk to this forum member, DJ710, he would have some good serious info for you. He does all the offroad racing stuff Grand Vit.

you wont be allowed to do many engine mods in that class so I reckon a v6 wagon would be the go

stick the forged lower GV arms in the front, brace the idler arm and fit a bigger strut brace and some braces between the wishbones and your laughing

brace up the back diff and trailing arms and mounts and off you go :)

yep royce thats kinda what I figured the story minght be.
I just sourcing the class specs now to save any fuckups.
are the gv arms 100% compatable?

www.camsonlinemanual.com or something the link is, will all be in there

check on licences too, make take some time to work up to

they attach the balljoint differently so youll need to fit the GV balljoint to the upright bit, no big deal.

yes there is a lot that I'll need for a halfway professional effort there.
and I dont really want to rush a car, they end up unbalanced , unstable dangerous pigs if not sorted properly.And you end up looking like a hack.

So I'd like a bit of testing time with what ever I decide to build. thats why I'm thinking 2011 race
