G'day,
A friend has a 98 2.5 V6 Vitara and its leaking oil. It only leaks when driving around 80 - 100kph. We have had the engine running for over half an hour up on stands and can't see any leak.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

is it Engine oil or gearbox oil ?? where is the oil stain?? i had a leak that only occurred when driving at speed and it ended up being a small rubber bung that fell out of the gearbox. High up on box on left hand side, you can only see it with a mirror and small torch. It wont leak when not moving.. The plug was at the end of selector shaft hole, I just used silicon and plugged it that way..
Apart from that I had the front and rear crankshaft seals leak at around 80,000 ks, this only occurred after I drowned it in very muddy water/slop..

G'day VitZook,
It's engine oil and its leaking on the left side of the motor. He has just brought the car but you can see from the stain under the car its been leaking for a while. The oil doesn't drip, it just gets sprayrd back under the car when driving at speed.
Also does anyone know how to adjust the fan belt on the 2.5 V6, the belt that runs the air con and power steering pump?
Thanks.

Sounds like you need a torch and mirror to see if its coming from front seal or valve covers. They are normally a very oil "tight" engine and dont leak at all..
You adjust the belt via an idler pulley in the middle, you loosen the bolts and its on a concentric thingy. Not hard just a bit squeezy, use mirror again to check and you will see..
