Post subject:  Jimny rear diff centre
Can anyone provide a pic of a Jimny rear diff (or anything equivalent) that has and shows the 2 sets of pinion gears. I want to show Derek as he says "They must have changed them" from what he knew of.

How long have the Jims and Sierras had 2 sets?

Sierras havent ever had two sets of pinion gears as far as i know.

I know SFA about Jimny's but Sierras have always used 4 pinion rear diffs.
NT fronts are also 4 pinion.
WT fronts are 2 pinion.

yes, vits, sierras and jimnys have allways used 4 pinion rear diffs.

jimny front diff has exposed spider gears, jimny rear is closed in like sierra.

No, just wanted to understand why these phantomgrip LSD's will fit in the front but not into the back.

edit: Derek says they will. Chris says they won't.

I would post a pic but I get the message "Sorry, but the maximum filesize for all Attachments is reached. Please contact the Board Administrator if you have questions." I have made sure the picture is under 250kb (only 146kb)

That LSD must be for a 2 pinion diff and is unsuitable for 4 pinion setup.

Okay these items MAY work but they look much more suited to a ON road application. They don't look like they would be adventages in a off road situation when you are lifting wheels off the ground.

X3. Agreed. I really saw no benefit.

Derek has asked me to drop the vehicle in so he can...

1. Assess if the front one is doing anything
2. Assess if the front one is installed correctly
3. See why the rear can't be installed.

Based on what I have been told and shown by Chris, I understand why it won't fit, but if I am to either get benefit from the product, or refund, I need to let Derek take a look.

I know a guy has one of these in a 300kg mini powered motorkahna special, even with massive slicks the thing still wont drive 2 wheels

if you are talking about the 2 people I think you are I would be listening to the one that says no and think about finding another supplier of bits, there are so many better ones out there

How is that supposed to work? I mean whats the theory?
If its supposed to apply friction to the spiders, hence slowing there movement, I would think you'd want it made of something with a far higher friction coefficient then steel... :? steel on steel friction is SFA! (assuming steel anyway, looks like it)

Just from what I've seen here, I think I'd forget about them, and save up for some air lockers, or if not lockrights...

I know why there called phantom lockers now.......... because it doesn't lock!

and it's not gonna fit in the rear of your jimny because there is no hole in the side of the diff centre to slide that block of Alloy into.

I recon if you stick a coke can in with plantery gears it will act more like a locker than that thing!!

you seem to have plenty of coin for your toys, why don't you go Air lockers?
I have an Air locker in the front of my jim, mainly because I twisted my old front centre in half (there not very strong) and from what I've seen you like to do with your Jim, your gonna do the same one day. and you'll need some spare Cv's soon too with a bit of mucking around 1 litre sierra cv's can be used in a jim and are much cheaper too :)
