I dont chat on here very often.. and I think its time I stared working out my options and need advice from some of you guys... and perhaps you may have what I need.

I got a G16b 16v injected vitara engine with harness - BUT not the vehicles harness and realised that about 2 weeks after buying the engine - my mistake..

I got in touch with the previous owner of the engine, and he mentioned that the rest of the harness needed was in his current car which he was converting to a 4age.

I went to Graham at suzi auto @ springwood, and Graham chased up a harness for me that would hook the computer to the engine's harness.

I got pretty busy with work, and didnt really have time to do much with it, so I sent it off to mud4b - only to find that the two harnesses wernt compatbile with each other.

Mark tells me that I may have a vitara auto harness and a manual harness mixed up which is a PITA as i wanted the zook wheeling for xmas.
Could someone give me the laydown on the harnesses on what's different with manual/auto harnesses and what options I have.

Could i go aftermarket ECU intead? would that be easier??

OR does someone have a full harness i can use - if you do... I'd love to hear from you.

BTW the G16b is already in a LWB sierra and needs wiring up.

Go see the wreckers at Bundamba (cannot remember their name), they have an EFI Vitara with allot of the motor missing. None of the electrical parts will be much chop as its flood damaged, but the wiring itself should be OK. Hence they should sell it cheap I think.

I dont know much about these early harnesses as mine was a GV, and almost completely different.

Try Champion wreckers at Nambour... They have 3 16V injected Vitaras sitting there..One is missing entire loom(I got that one) but other two are intact.. Not sure if they are auto or manual though.

auto or man doesn't matter. The auto harness just has a shit load more wires and a few more plugs. I just cut down a G16 16v auto harness to run a sierra conversion, and I removed all of the wires that went under the dash, to the instrument cluster, and to the auto, and ended up with a loom that was a 10th of the size. As long as both harness peices that you have are from EFI vitaras, you should be able to chop them to suit.

I assume that they mostly plug together?

OK.... dramas dramas....

I've now got all the info I need to know bout the wiring issue.

Been to Fatzooks to go over it and spoke to Graham at suzi auto the following day to work out what options I have.

Now the full story is..

Engines harness is one part that came with the engine and the yellow plug type ECU minus the body's harness which I needed to plug the ECU to and the AFM which is a 3 pin type.

Now.. the body loom which I sourced thru Graham from suzi auto - one plug matched up to the engines harness, but the other plug didnt, - Pete (fatzook) suggested I could cut and join the wires together, so we kept going over the harness only to find its a 5 wire AFM (air flow meter) type which made the body's harness virtually useless because it required a 5 wire AFM which would obviously not be compatible with my ECU (we tried my ECU in fatzook's ute which did not fire up - his ute had blue connectors for the ECU whereas mine was yellow). We also tested his ute to see if it ran without the AFM whihch it shut down after disconnectin the AFM.

So, visited Graham afterwards and he had another vitara loom which was obviuosly a different plug type and didnt work out again. So off to the wreckers I went.

Visited 4 wreckers that day - Salisbury, 2x 4x4 wreckers around corner, and ABC wreckers and also rang champion wreckers at nambour with no luck.

Im at the point where I'm thinking if those looms are so bloody rare, I may as well start investigating into an aftermarket ECU and make up my own harness to suit - Would that option be easier?

If making up my own harness to go off the aftermarket ECU (obviously the easiest choice) what ECU do you guys suggest I use? As I have access to a few different types via Mazfix if needed.

LPG as suggested by 11EVL - I gave it some thought, and would rather have it run on petrol at this stage.

Hope you guys can throw me some advice suggestions....

Have a club run to ripley this weekend and I'm starting to think that its not going to make it seeing I dont have a lot of time left to make things happen and its quite frustrating.

I ran a microtech in my gti Sierra was quite good other than that I don't know if u can use the standard one somehow I think it would be a better option

Just learning a bit about ECU's

So I could just run a wolf 3d - microtech or any of the sort.. as a stand alone computer, and make up my own loom to pick up the sensors on the engine, and then i'd have to tow it to a dyno place to get it tuned obviously.

Would that be the right track there?

Hi,

Do you have all of the required parts/sensors? ie a three wire Air flow sensor?

Are you sure the ECU is compatible with the engine? ie what type of Distributor does the engine have.

Auto & manuals have quite different looms/ ECU's as the four speed auto is electronic controls that has a lot of linked wires between the ECU & gbox controller.

Is the only issue just the lack of a harness?

Maybe its time to take it to a competent auto electrician to sort it out before you waste too much more money on trying to get it running....
