Got hold of a second hand transfer today with 4.16s in and there is a threaded hole on the side of the case about 1.5 inches in front of the filler plug. I looked at my current case and there is a flat headed allen bolt in the hole. Anyone know what it's for? Does it retain something? Cheers fellas!

you will possibly find its the detent balls and sprints that keep it in gear

And a close up. That appears to be a spring at the bottom of the hole. Should there be a ball bearing between this and the bolt?? There is also a small piece of grass in there, i dont think this came from factory!

the ball bearing will be or should be beneath the spring.

Thanks tanshi. Just ordered new ones as part of a transfer kit as the lever bush is pretty trashed. I'd swap the same bush over from my other transfer but that one is looking a little second hand also!

The transfer seems to shift very easily between 2wd and 4wd. Barely need fingertip pressure to do it, there's no resistance whatsoever. Is this caused by the missing bolt? Does this case need to come apart??

i would say thats due to the missing bolt, its not holding the ball in its notches
