When the noise was happening it looked like the front end was, how do I put it? Losing drive when making the noise and getting drive when it wasn't making the noise.

I would start at the hubs and make sure they aren't seize or partially engaged.

If its not the hubs then check the oil, these are the two cheapest and easiest things to check.

Next stop is the CV's, which its could also be since it looks like you were at full lock to the left when it happened.

Im going with front output gear in the TC as well. It is too slow for it to be engine related. Have you got a reduction transfer case? Did you upgrade the front output gear? Just interested cause I bought the upgraded output form my transfer case rebuild and was wanting to know if your fails. Keep us informed. :P
