Hi Gents. I've got a stock LWB Vitara 1996 1.6 and was wanting to upgrade my tyres from standard 205/75/r15 to BFG A/T 215/75/r15 and was wondering if these will fit comfortably without any rubbing. I have no lift kit in my car as I do bugger all offroad work but was heading up to Steep Point shortly. I've heard that 235/75/r15 might cause a few dramas with my speedo etc as i was just looking to give my car a basic upgrade without spending too much coin. Thanks for your comments Ray.

I had 235/75/15 on my old Vit and they never rubbed at all.

Any bigger tyre will cause your speedo to under-read, as long as you are aware of that and drive accordingly, there will never be a problem!

i would just go 235/75/15, as thats what i have on mine, without any lift.
sure i have some scrubbage but that is only because of the offset rims i have.

i wouldnt worry about the speedo issue, its pretty easy to work around. you just take off 10% of your speed.

most people have or have access to a gps of some kind, check your speedo against one. I just fitted 215/75/15 hankook mt's to my stockman, standard tyre was 205/70. my speedo is spot on at 60 and 80 with the new tyre, and thats checking with both my gps units.

i had 235/75/15 on my lwb vitara but i had very minor scrub. i put 15mm and 30mm coil spacers in front and back and the prob went away. they only cost about $80. ive seen em on ebay as well.
as for the speedo being out just drive as fast as the guy next to you.

Firstly, why BFG's ?
I dont think they are all that good myself, they did have issues onroad a while back, dont know if they fixed those, they didnt like wet roads, would slip alot, and they where a bit unstable at high speed, and they had one of the lowest onroad speed ratings... if you are going to be mainly onroad, i would get a better tyre... If you are still gonna get the BFG's, the Duellers are better then the AT's... Before i bought new tyres i went and checked out some tyre reviews by 4WD magazines first...

I bought, Kumho Road Venture AT's 225/75/R15 on my SWB Vit, they were the best all round tyre for me, i have no rubbing issues, and i am very happy with them as a onroad and offroad tyre, i would recommend them, they cost me $175 each from Tyrepower... :wink: :lol:

Thanks MacBear for your info. After reading a few articles today, all the info ( for someone like me who taxis kids around and goes fishing a few times a year up north) seems to point toward the pirelli scorpion a/t. They seem to score consistently high feedback in most 4x4 mags. I"ll price out 225/75/15 scorpions tommorrow as I have a friend that works at tyrepower fremantle. If they come in beyond my price range I'll have a look at the Kumho road ventures as well. Thanks Ray

I had pirelli scorpion A/Ts on my vitara wagon when i bought it and they were quite as on road and not to bad off road ether the only reason i upgraded to M/Ts was i get em for free :roll: :wink: :P

Your welcome... yeah Pirelli Scorpions seem to be the top tyre, but they were $300+ a tyre... Coopers come in 2nd, but i dont think they are a good all rounder, they were $250+ a tyre...

I think the Kumho's are a much underrated tyre, and not considered as a good 4WD tyre, but i love them, the Kumho's are also an LT = Light Truck Tyre, the guy in Armadale Tyrepower also said they were a very good 4WD tyre !

The prices arnt to accurate, i only paid $175 a tyre for the 225/17R15's...
