How do you tell the flywheels apart? I have 4 flywheels here I need to know what one is off a W/T 1.3

Does anyone know the size of each flywheel.

Oh and to add a twist one of these may be from a Gemini. :) Long story but i have a milk crate of flywheels and a mate needs one for a w/t 1.3

Oh and they are at my house I dont have them on me. So I cant look for numbers till I get home.

Early 1.3 plates are flat.
Late 1.3 has a 5-6mm recess for the clutch plate.

WRONG

1.3 swift flywheels are flat
1.3 litre sierra flywheel has a 2.1 mm recess for the clutch plate throughout the whole 1.3 range
1 litre sierra the clutch plate area is 1.8 mm raised

There are two recesses in the flywheel...
The problem has already been solved but thanks anyway.

some 1.3 sierras have a flat flywheel and use the swift clutch, I owned one

And on a related matter, aren't there 2 versions of clutch plate? 20 and 22 spline comes to mind?

Might be handy to mention if someone comes across this thread in a search.

Post subject:  Re: FLYWHEELS

Yep theres 2 but can't remember the spline count. I'm pretty sure the later were 22 and the earlier were 20 like you said or maybe 19??? I also screwed up once where I put an earlier clutch onto one of the stepped (recessed) fly wheels. As a result the car would drive but would slip constantly.

OK sorry to go of course just that lil but will a gti flywheel fit a 95 sierra ??

Post subject:  Re: FLYWHEELS

Both clutch packs will bolt up to both flywheels. the difference is in the trans input shaft.

It should but with it being lighter it will take away from the torque.

wev'e been through this the flywheel weight makes fuckall difference to how much power your engine can make

you need the flywheel that matches your gearbox, 18 spline is flat so gti might work with that cause its the same clutch as a swift but I doubt it
20 spline is stepped so wont work at all

Post subject:  Re: FLYWHEELS

So you dont think it will work, What do you mean by stepped cause ive machined my gti Flywheel for it to be a "lighten flywheel"

Its sitting in my gti out back so if it can fit ill use it but if not ill sell it lol

And i know it wont make me power fitting it, but it will make the engine run with less strain being lighter then standard, TRUE ??

Post subject:  Re: FLYWHEELS

yes lighter flywheel is better for acceleration, not as good for smooth idle though

bit the common sierra box uses a flywheel that not flat it has a stepped section where the plate runs so the pressure plate wont work with a flat flywheel

Thanks royce

If some has a picture of a standard sierra Flywheel can they send it to me or post it up,

Cheers guys

I have a 1.3 gearbox with 20 spline, do I need a flywheel that steps out where the clutch plates touch ? Cheers

Use the 1.3 flywheel not the baleno one

Someone resurrected an old thread too, instead of starting a new one 8O 8O

no 1.3 sierra ever used a flat flywheel , i think you got duped (while we are on an old thread) also no 1.3 sierra ever used the same spline as a swift.

I would just like to add....

This is a total load of shit.

The flywheel stores energy, and assists in smothing out the peaks and troughs of power output etc.

Even though v.w.dave is no longer here, perhaps we can change his name to fos.dave for all the misinformation provided.

Though I'd keep flywheel stuff together.

I have a G16A block that was connected to an auto. I've gone to put the 1.3 flywheel on and it doesn't fit. :( As you can see it isn't flat. No timing pin either.

Image

The collar appears to be the same size as the spigot bearing.

Image

What do I do?

1. Grind the collar flat.
OR
2. Is there a smaller spigot bearing that goes inside the collar?

This thread always makes me laugh

That collar is where the spigot bearing lives. Is that engine out of a Vit?

Glad it tickles you but I don't hang around this end of an engine often.

Baleno engine I think. :?

OK that will make it extremely small as the collar OD has the same OD as the 1.3 spigot bearing.

So to fix it, I knock out the bearing in the flywheel and source a 1.6 spigot bearing?

I've given it at tap thinking the same that it could be a spacer thingy.
Maybe I need a bigger hammer.
