Is the idle controller the same on all the 16v engines?

I am guessing it is a pulse width modulated valve, not a stepper motor type?

mine is a PWM valve

I dont believe it controls cold start idle up though and seems to do bugger all the rest of the time if you dont have AC :)

Mine runs fast idle until it warms up, I don't have AC

its mechanical, looks like there is another port with another coolant controled waxstat opening and closing it, like a carby

I can unplug my solenoid and it still idles fast cold
