Hey guys
Just chasing a few opinions on a mk3 gti engine conversions into a sierra.
Is it worth it?
Will it just bolt directly in or would I need an adaptor plate to make it line up with my gearbox?

I've been told its a direct bolt-in except you need an adapter
for the dizzy, to send the dizzy on right angles to the motor, and of course
the air box. as far as i know everything else bolts up, gear box, engine mounts etc.

You cant get an angle drive for the dizzy on a Mk3.

You need you use a mazda cap.

The block is more or less the same as the sierra 1.3. Find chinny's build up for most of the info

You dont need an adaptor to mate it to the gearbox but that and the engine mounts are where the similarities end. sierra sump and oil pickup, modified dizzy, ecu and wiring, gti throttle cable, right angled thermostat housing, custom coolant hoses, electric radiator fan or sierra waterpump, sierra clutch and flywheel, sierra extractors with gti flange plate for exhaust, electric fuel pump, intank or with surge tank etc etc...

It is alot of fun once its in though!! I took mine to the sand dunes today and it was great fun, dont think it will just take a weekend to put it in though..

I went and had a look at it today.
He reckons for $300 I can have whatever I need off the car for the engine conversion.
Is that a fair price and will I need a surge tank, or should I just stick with the standard 1.3 motor?

Cam has a slight oil leak but apart from that it looks alright.
It's not wired up so i havent been able to see it running

Then I would be checking the compresion as well but $300 is still cheap I rebuilt mine and it cost me $300 in parts

have a search around for the user chinny. he had a gti conversion build up with a lot of good work.

no I didnt but its a good idea to the reason I didnt was becouse Im doing a ute chop & chassie stretch later and will be puting the std gti fuel tank under the tray

yes if you have the mk 2 wiring as well
