Best bet, buy (or get given) an old dish washer, it will save your marage
and makes a great parts washer.

Well, I had inteneded to build one. Got a 44 Gallon drum and hacked it in half lenght ways. Next step was to weld some 150x50 RHS on each side to give it some depth, and aquire a pump. Oh, and make a lid. Then I see SuperWorks have them for $127. Super Works parts washer Maybe I should buy one and save the hassel. Anyone have one of these? Anygood? No issues? Fit a toyota 5 speed into it to wash it? or too small? I notice that the superworks page mentions - must only be used with water based cleaning soloution. How well do water based solutions work? I have only used petro based cleaners in the past... |

Those washers tend to be tiny. We have a small one at work, and it was shithouse. Trying to clean a coal covered bearing thats a metre across to do a inspection on it and you couldnt sit the bearing in there , you had to hang it from the forklift for a few hours, then all the shit went on the floor. If your going to be using it for gearbox and larger heavier items, just continue on with your build. It might end up costing you the same, but alteast you come out of it with a large stable (i've nearly punted our small one over a few times) washbay. weaves. |

The reason the Superworks one insists on water based solvents is because the pump isn't rated for flammable liquids and could start a fire. I built one years ago out of a 44 sliced lengthways with a 20 litre drum as a sump under it which had a volvo efi fuel pump suck through 2nd hand oil filters. Changed the filter once a week and it never clogged up. We ran a mix of kero and diesel. |
