Hey all can't seem to figure out which mark on the cam pulley to use for timing belt replacent. There is an "I" and an "e" on the outside and the same for the dowel placement. Which one do I use and would I be right in saying that if I use the I for the dowels then usethe I for the outside mark as well. But do I use I or e?
Ad before you say just put it back the way it came off no good as a place done the head and I don't reckon they have put it back on right hense I'm checking now.
Thanks for your help

I reckon if you put the keyway in the crank pointing straight up and the keyway on the cam pointing straight down and stick the pulley back on so the little mark on the pulley is pointing straight up youll be right

easy way to confirm that is that the cam on number 1 has both valves closed and will start to next open the exhaust in about 90 degrees of cam rotation

I havent heard of any engine being different to this but there must be a reason for the other cutout, I would turn the engine over by hand real careful to double check too

yeah i know what you mean and if it only had 1 timing mark id be fine as thats how most cars are these days. but as this has to really 4 different combinations as to how it can go im a little lost.
and i would put th mark at the top but again there is 2 haha. oh well mayby somebody may be able to confirm which one it is.

The 'I' is for twin cam use only..
You want the 'E' mark..
Pretty sure it's that way but I might have it ass about.

Just to confirm that the e markings are the correct ones so FYI use the e haha

I can confirm that the E is the correct mark for the dowel and timing (dowel down , E timing mark at top), in this position the engine is firing on number 4 cylinder (finished compression and on combustion stroke) , number 1 cyl has just finished its Exhaust stroke.
