| Post subject: | 00' Jimny for conversion/s to a Rare 88.5 Sierra Lwb Wt |
I now have a whole Jimny, for a conversion. As the body is too damaged to repair and fixing it is too much of another project with too little space. I have too many cars. By researching. There seems to be problems with the M13a wiring into a sierra because of the imoboliser.. Then there are more problems if you dont use the Jimny transfer for vss. I am sure i can win though So again, I'm indecisive. I need some help. My Lwb Wt Is being rebuilt/Restored to perfect condition. All original height. No lift. And not to be used offroad much.(only slight dirt tracks, mainly touring). I want it to look original on the outside, but dont mind improvements for acceleration, handling and safety. I want it to be smooth, reliable with no problems ever(if thats possible) I am also unsure if the original number matching 1324cc actually runs/goes? if i keep original, it may need a rebuild, I dont have the money. M13a does not need a rebuild. The last option depends on how well it drives. If it drives rougher then my swb. I will sell it. I am over rough cars, 1 is enough. |

could ya make a lwb jimny ute with it that would be cool where is the damage? having the m13a and auto in the lwb would be nice if you dont have plans for off road you probably wont need gearing so you could use the jimny transfer aswell. |

Yes she will be kept stock looking.. I already have a monster swb for serious stuff. (Still growing, bundera's after lwb build) I love the look and seeing stock Lwb's. They are just cool. So owning one, even a super smooth jimny coil one, will be better then my smooth 77 rolla. The damage on the jimny is pass door, pillar, quarter. So really, a full body swap if to re rego. it would make it a cheap Jimny. But too many projects. 2 is enough |

yeah fair enough a coiled lwb with efi and auto sounds very comfy and nice to drive. does it have p/s too just too? it would be a good zook to daily drive i vote the stretched chassis with lwb body if possible |

Has ps. It will be easy to stretch the wheelbase over midsection, extra box section and long support/fish plates, and modify mounts/body to suit. It's just the case of is it "Engineerable" If it is, thats my best option. I will have to ring an engineer monday. Possibly Athol. |

If it can't be done that way go with the Jim running gear in the lwb |

I reckon the M13a is a smoldering piece of shit. Yeah its smooth running, and yeah its better than a carby 1.3, but a G16 MPFI swap is 10 times easier than M series into sierra, and has more power and heaps more torque. Keep restoring the sierra, leave it stock, piss the jimny shit off, and buy a low km G16B jap import front cut and enjoy it. JMO Pete |

keep the LWB looking like new on the outside and put all the Jim gear under it. As you said you are going ot use it as a daily. You wont need gears or anything. It will be good cruisen with a new nice running smooth EFI and Auto in a classy old looking zook. |

Have you seen this conversion dave? For starters, you will need to remake your tranny tunnel unless you do a body lift. Secondly, the jim transfer case is chain driven. WTF would you want this? Next problem is the diff swap. WT diffs are heaps better than jimny. No stupid wheel bearing, no hub conversions needed etc etc. But the biggest problem is getting it running and keeping it reliable. The wiring is nothing short of a nightmare. It helps that the ECU, transponder unit and key are all from the same vehicle in this case, but the wiring is very complex compared to say a G16B. Not worth the effort IMO. Not for a shitty 60kw. |

keep the lwb shell and chassis rails, chuck the rest and replace with jimny yes its too much work yes it wont do anything better than a jimny yes it will cost a shitload to make it all spot on but none of that matters cause it will be cool and being able to get a real jimny sierra badge and sticking it on the side will be worth every last headache building it |

Honestly, if you don't want the hassle, stick to the standard driveline. You've seen how well mine runs, and it drives fine on the road although I'll admit a little extra poke would be nice. Nothing that I don't think a decent exhaust system, Vitara clutch fan, and mild camshaft won't fix. If you're going the m13a route though, let me know. I'd be happy to lend a hand in conversion (I like rooting around with wiring) |

Keep the LWB standard. Sell the jimny parts off or get another body for it then sell the whole jimny off. Or buy another good jimny and keep all your other jimny parts for when it fails. |

I'm still thinking Jimny chassis with all the driveline. It just sounds so simple. Why is it going to be so hard to wire, I have the whole harness and everything, it will all go into the lwb. There will be hardly any sierra lwb wiring left! If the tunnel needs widening for the auto..I have a Jimny tunnel here! I'm already cutting the rust out of the lwb next to the tunnel. So it isnt going to be that hard.. Transfer, Who cares? Whats the matter with a jimny transfer if it is never going to be modded. Plenty of jimnys out there modded. With the jimny transfer. What jimny rear diff bearing are you talking about? I have some wt diffs here if the jimnys are a pain. (I know the Jim's are weaker) The m13a with auto goes good. I drove her home. 30min drive. Yes the g16b is better, But I already own one! Drive a 3k 1166cc rolla for a daily. Now thats a power house.. Then later, if i still want more power. I will go m18. The Jimny ride is compareable to an 05 corolla. Now thats an improvement. |

as a mod chassis extensions are pretty poorly looked apon, too hard to test its strong welding in the suspension mounts to a sierra chassis on the other hand would be a lot better |

Then you had better find a good supply of autos, because they are not renound for their strength. Pete |

Advice? They all say don't do this dont do that. But no reasons behind them to back them up! I posted a heap of questions, Since then, Fatzook has not answered questions on his past advice... I do not care how much work is involved. I will be doing all the work. Both cars have no rego. So its an endless time limit to get things right the 1st time. |
