ball is going to rebuild a 8v 1.6 for me, or at least i think he is going to as when i asked him to do it he just said. I HATE DOING YOUR SHIT. anyway i want a good strong motor that will rev hard so any suggestions on any internal mods that people have tried. also are there any bolt on tbi setups that work properly straight away. are there any aftermarket cranks/rods/pistons available? |

I have heard all the Hayabusa internals are a direct bolt in fit |

Hey shep you should put in 16 valve pistons just in case |

Don't waste yours and Balls time doing an 8 valve.... Go 16 valve straight up... You won't regret it... Make sure you get it balanced too. |

Make sure you get it balanced too. the issue is getting one. there wouldn't be a 16v for sale anywhere in the nt and i already have the 8v, plus it went ok in my hardtop. |

What is the difference between the 8V and 16V, just the number of valves ?? |

efi. different pistons. different head. Main difference is power. |

different head design, efi, heaps more power |

So we are looking for a head not a whole engine |

head, intake/zorst manifolds, complete wiring. |

the heads the hard bit to get!!!!! there may be a difference in cool bits in the bottom end but I doubt it, different pistons but that wont matter i think get a v6 and paint 1.6 on it |

pistons will be replaced anyway so they aren't a problem |

haha have i talked ya into it? i was hoping for a nice little billet crank with carrilo rods and wiseco pistons, if you can get them for car motors. |

just the number of valves ?? Yeah as others have said... More valves = more airflow = more power out of the box.. 16 valves are (nearly) all MPFI too... No rooting around with carbys. For roughly the same cost in parts to rebuild... go 16V everytime... There was a guy in Darwin posted a pic of his smashed VIT on here a few days ago... He might be wrecking it... If you can find the thread. |

With you two being up north wouldn't a front cut Balino from jap land be cheap??? Just a thought. The money and time your about to put into a carby engine you could have a EFI. I know down here you can get front cut jap balinos for under $1000. It should be cheaper up there because of shipping.... If that isn't a option. In 3 weeks I am getting a complete EFI engine and I don't need the block. I could push the pistons out and send them up to you. That way you could at least put the 16valve pistons in so you could make it EFI in the future. PM me if you want them. |

Funny stuff Dave..... Ball doesn't strike me as the kind of guy that would use 2nd hand pistons.... |

Not when it all has to go through customs in Sydney first. and we already have a complete motor and i also will only have around 3 days to bolt the thing in and have it running reliably enough to do 1000km trip where there are no roads. haha second hand pistons. you do realise that where i drive the chances of a mechanical breakdown being fatal are very high. |

Can anyone tell me if the cranks are different. I have scored a 16v engine but the crank is cactus. |

ball wrote: Can anyone tell me if the cranks are different. On the engine I put in mine there was a number stamped on the flywheel end of the crank I couldn't tell you what it was. But you could look at the 2 you have and see if they are the same. I have a mate that has put the crank and pistons out of a 8v into a 16v without any problems you should be ok going the other way. They both take the same flywheel so they have the same bolt pattern.

Pretty sure they are the same, has it killed the front keyway? |

I don't think so. I have been told the crank is in 2 pieces. I won't get it until some time next week. |

are the 16V's all TBI or are some MPFI |

16V Vitaras in Aust are MPFI. 16V Swifts in Aust are MPFI. 16V Balenos in Aust are MPFI. SOME Vitaras & Swifts in Asia that made it here as front cuts are 16V carby OR TBI General rule is 16V = MPFI 8V = Carby (or TBI if import). |

I've got a 16v head with TBI, came from a Swift apparantly. Buggered if I know if it was local or not though. Ball the cranks should be the same, possibly a difference with counterweights but journals etc are all the same. |
