Ok a couple of quick questions for you guys as i dont understand gear ratios at all 
1.My car is a 96 swb efi 5 speed manaul vitara what diff ratios would they be? 2.Im only planing on running 30s maybe 31s at the most and sometimes towing a small camping trailer what diff ratios would you guys recomend? 3.And the other day i was at 4wd usa and i picked up the calmini catalogue in there they have 5.83:1 ring and pinion sets has anyone tryed these? I think there is a differance in Auto and 5Speed. You may want to say what yours is. |

I'm by no means an expert, but from the research I've done... 1) 5.12 if its a manual, 4.6 something it ifs an auto. (or 4.88 if you've got a later model SV manual). 2) If its an auto, easy choice is just swap to 5.12. If its a manual, I don't believe there is a whole lot else out there apart from the 5.83 gears you mentioned. Supposedly in overseas markets there were a few other different ratios but they are as rare as rocking horse shit. 3) No idea sorry. I think I remember reading somewhere the 5.83 gear sets weren't that easy to get ahold of anymore but not sure how true that is. cheers, Moses |

not in EFI models! efi auto and manual share the 5.1. the carby 3 speed has 4.6 |

youll be right its a vitara 
I dont notice a difference towing a trailer once I am moving and really its only a bit more clutch slip to get going likewise you can push 31's along ok, a lot better than a sierra anyway
