Had a bit of a brainstorm this morning, i have been trying to come up with ideas for the tray on the back of my stockman to no avail.
Until i got the tape out and did some measuring on the tub of my hardtop wreck, looks like if i chop it behind the rear door it will line up perfect with the rear tyre on the ute. Has anyone attempted something like this before, i have seen many swb turned into utes but not the other way round. This will mean that the tub will be shorter than a factory wellbody lwb and longer than a swb tub.
Any thoughts on how i would go about joining them, i was thinking of welding tube top and bottom on the sides and sliding the tub on, then bracing the bottom and welding the hell out of it, bit of bog here and there, no one would be the wiser.

er... yeah i want to take of the factory trayback
Grind the swb hardtop in half to resemble a swb tub then weld that sucka onto my body thus creating some sort of hybrid.

This is what i got

This is what i want to chop

This is my desired result only a bit shorter

why not look for a soft top and cut that up?? easier to do as it already has the capping on the top..

if i was doing it i would make it as a full seperate part like the hilux tubs.. bolt on bolt off.

Essentially yes, but i do like the idea of having it bolt on/off separately like the hilux's do. That would mean substantial tidying up of the factory chop on mine and the tub, but on the other hand i wouldnt have to squeeze it all into a w/end, i could work on it at a liesurely pace.
hmmm... :|

it would be cool but then it would mean more panels to bash up, and less tray space.

Find a swb tub. once you chop into a hardtop body they become so floppy and would be hard to get looking right again.

SWB tub would be 100000x less work

Than do that for fun & get a soft top tub, it's a lot less work.

I was thinking of doing something along the same lines, but different :?

I have a beat up LWB body which is twisted and doors dont close properly etc. My plan was to:
- Cut existing body behind front seats
- Bugger off the front section
- Get a swb body
- Cut swb body behind front seats
- Replace missing lwb section with the new cut swb front tub
- weld the rear LWB tub to the cut SWB tub in effect re-creating the LWB tub

Not sure how tough this will be, or if its possible. Only a theory at the moment. But due to the rareness of LWB bodies it might be my only chance of a new body. 8)
