Have you tried to tighten the adjusting screw on top of the box? and whats your steering damper like?

no but i assumed that if i tightened it to work when it was straight it would be too tight for when it's turned, as for the dampener unknown condition looks stock, i was gonna replace the dampener but i thought it may be masking another problem

Tighten the bolt as when turning you are engaging the gears. when straight it will take heaps of input to just keep it straight. You end up just chasing the front end all day. tighten the bolt and get a new damper...not a RTC one as they make turning hard without power steering.
