Post subject:  FREE Dato 1200 conversion from a LJ81

FREE
got a datsun 1200 engine with a GBOX sitting in my LJ81 inc. wiring harness and Mounts etc...
Ran quite well in the ute but I'm not goin down that road..
have much bigger plans for it atm
just had a oil and oil filter change ran mayb 3km's ago..

Don't chuck, I have a datsun and could use a 1.5 Aseries! Do /did they run at all?

i have no idea if they run on not.

they both came out of lj50s motor and gearbox.

The trouble I had with my a12 motor in my lj was the dodgy shit they did to the steering to make it fit.

Made the scary LJ steering even worse. The dropped evrything 4 inches and it just was out of wack something cruel

Yep we did a lot of them back before suzuki released the 1300 sierra (as parts for LJ's), 1litre sierras were still new cars and wreckers wanted top dollar for a 1Litre engine.

Lots of people ran 3k and 4k Corollas but I personally liked the Datsun A12GX or A14GX engines which were small light and produced good power, they fit in better than a 3K and were easy to keep cool.

The A14GX were 100hp engines (73kw) and with lots of people rallying Datsuns at the time performace bits were readily available 100kw was common.

I have seen a couple of old conversions with the steering box moved like TSAR mentioned and yes it was horrible, Sierra steering box or the Datsun 1200 steering box conversion was the only way to go.

My LJ has a ballanced A15GX bottom end with flat top Wisco pistons and a A14GX oval port head, 10:1 compression, twin side draft Hitachi's, Petronix ignition system, Crane cam and double valve springs. It goes pretty well.
