hey guys and gals
Figured i'd put this up, my old man got an old willy's jeep out of a trade and is considering doing a resto but he already has enough jobs on the go.
I know nothing about them and he doesn't know much more but i'll put up more info as i know. 90% sure its a 1952 model. does have
Has axles, diffs, transfer and box 3 speed manual. no motor but has bell housing adaptor and engine mounts for a pre crossflow ford 6 cylinder. fuel tank.
Located northside bris, can deliver ( its still on the trailer  )

Update, had about 4 people say they want to come and look at it and never turn up/ or call back. Godda love it. anyway i was out again on the weekend and thought i'd take a few more pics.
The old man took it off the trailer, has given it a bit of a gurny and took the fuel tank out. more pics will be added at bottom of thread

Looks like an aussie assembled CJ3 to me,
The aussie importer/ assembler put ford 6 cyl. engines in- I think it was to do with giving higher level of aussie content to reduce import tax rate.
Importing and sales of jeeps in Australia was for many years at best described as haphazard- not done very welll at all.
Aust. military almost went cj3b jeeps instead of landrover, but did a ring around of jeep dealerships asking for various parts- usual answer being not available- we need to import it from the USA, didnt help the jeep submission! landy won the tender.
CJ3 jeeps had the higher bonnet to allow the 'HURRICANE' ohv engine to be fitted- instead of the flat head "go devil" engine as fitted to WW2 type jeeps.
As long as the chassis is good- $1500 is a reasonable price.
All parts are available off the shelf.(in the USA) but a lot of stuff is available here, lots of reproduction stuff on the market.
CJ3 jeeps were made up until the late 1990's by mitsubishi, mahindra up until a few years ago, also made in greece, portugal, spain, france, turkey, still made in philipines, and a few other countries as well.
USA gave thousands of them away around the world as international aid- called them m606 jeeps, these ones were not supposed to have any trade markings like "willys" on them, same for any jeeps built under license- jeep marking were permitted for manufacturers domestic market, but if mitsubishi, mahindra or whoever sold them outside thier own country, could not be sold as willys or jeeps.

Cheers stephen, my old man use to load these on to herc's back in the day. It did come with a 6 cylinder ford motor but i figured the guy that had put it in, not that it was assembled like that here. If thats the case the motor can go with it too if someone wanted it. Apparently its been sitting idle for about 10 years but was previously running well.
And thanks for the link, will post it up there shortly, just thought someone here might be interested, never know

I understand that our airforce purchased some CJ3B jeeps- used them as radio carriers and "follow me" jeeps, the figure I heard was 50 or so purchased as a stop gap measure-apparently the landies were a bit late arriving or something along those lines.
I am not sure if the RAAF jeeps were fitted with HURRICANE OHV 4 cylinder engines- or the falcon 6 cyl.
The army tested CJ3B jeeps- but they were not the M606 version which had heavier springs, pintle tow hitch and military lighting etc, they tested standard civvy jeeps without any heavy duty upgrades.
Testing involved heavily overloading the jeep and hammering the beejeezuz out of it.
Without the milspec upgrade it didnt last as long as it should.
The army testing team rang the dealerships for availability of gearboxes, transfercases, axles, springs, shocks etc- apparently the army found the dealerships tended to import parts themselves as the importer never had stuff in stock!
With decent spares availability and a milspec jeep being used for the test there is a very good chance our military would have been driving jeeps instead of landies!
For what its worth, the mitsubishi jeeps were recognised as being the best of the lot- fit and finish was of very high standard (lots are seen on old jap monster movies like godzilla/ gogira etc)
Indian jeeps-mahindra- were fitted with dana 44 diffs front and rear, improved T90 4 speed gearbox, peugot 2.1 litre diesel engine, heavy duty transfer case, power take off, and power assist brakes as an option.
The mahindra jeeps imported into Australia were all fitted with 5.38 ratio diffs- and when the importer took off the 16" rims/7.50 x 16 tyres to give greater aussie content (import duty) and fitted elcheapo aussie 15" wheels and tyres- the high revs on the highway killed a lot of them.
actually- the whole importing of mahindra jeeps into Australia was a mess of red tape from start to finish and drove the price up too high for what they were selling- overpriced 1930's technology didnt go too well with the 1990's market.
