Post subject:  Vitara EFI LWB tanks
Got two LWB Vitara tanks here, the ones with swimmer pump, perfect for that EFI conversion.
One tank is dinted but the other is in excellent condition.
These tanks WILL fit in a Sierra but you will need to modify the rear mounts and move the shock towers forward a little (this gives you the opportunity for inboard shock mounts for those longer travel shocks, at least that's what I did anyway).
They are in Hampton Park, $200 (now $150) for both with pump.

They wont be 70L tanks, because they don't fit between the chassis rails of a sierra.

They are the 70ish litre tanks, they do fit between the rails up to the centre flange.

The long wheel base ones. Originally when I fitted it to my sierra I remember thinking that it was more involved than what I had read, but went ahead, modified and fitted it anyway thinking that it was a SWB tank. Its a big suprise when the fuel bowser spins past 30litres and doesn't click off like I was used to.

Hmm Shep you have me doubting myself on how much capacity it had, maybe it was 55, can't remember. Either way, its the LWB tank.

70 would be awesome. I am sticking a lwb tank in my Sierra and also keeping the original tank so 110ltr would be great

No.

They aren't.

The LWB 1.6 vitara has a 55L tank. THEY fit in a sierra...JUST.

The 70L tank from the SV series vitaras are over 750 wide, not including the mounting flanges. A sierra chassis is 695/700 wide.

If you had one in yor sierra it must have been the 55L from a 1.6 vitara LWB.

Yes, but you will have nowhere between the chassis rails to route your exhaust past the fuel tank. It would have to side exit before the tank......

Yeh thats what I had to do, I routed the exhaust out the drivers side before the rear wheel. Was good having a decent range.

You need 800mm. If you have the space infront or behind the axle for that, then yes it would fit. Allthough I doubt you do.

Actually I just went and measure the ute. The rear axle is moved back 80mm.

I have 500mm between the back of the diff housing and the rear cross member.

I have 900mm between the back of the transfer and the front of the rear housing, BUT the tank would be wide enough that it would sit over the top of the rear driveshaft. So if you intend to keep the floor in your LWB, the tank would have to be mounted very low. Low enough that you would have zero uptravel in the rear before the driveshaft took out the tank.

I can live with that. Going to need some exhaust work now anyway...
If the 1.6 LWB are a 55L tank the fuel guage must be incredibly pessimistic - I've had it well below "E" and never put more than about 46L in.

do ya mean the rear cross member or the one the stock tank bolts to? i reckon there is room for another stock tank behind the original stock tank.

admittedly it has been a while since i have had a look under it, might stick it on my hoist today for a look.

I should have been clearer Shep.

I have removed/ replaced all factory cross members on my chassis, as I've had to add new ones to suit my suspension and tank layouts.

I simply measured the space fore and aft of my diff, with the transfer case and rear crossmember ( literally at the end of the chassis) being the point of termination.

You will need to consider many more things that I did, like shocky crossmember, shocks, exhaust, existing tank etc.

I just don't see it fitting mate.

Just to help out my LWB vit tank was out of a 2.5 V6?? If thats right sorry don't really know my vits but wasn't a 1.6. And it originally was just over 800mm wide. You don't have to knock it in by much. More just the centre flange then anything.

There isn't a great deal in it. Rear mounting cross member on the LWB Sierra will have to be cut out and a new made. The front mounts will work with some mods and overall the tank sits 50mm roughly further back them the stamdard tank. And still allows you to leave the factory shock mounts and setup standard.
